ok so my dad gave me his 1960's seamaster for crimbo, he's go arthritis so winding it became an issue.

winding is such a b*llache (blister on my index finger already!) and there are plenty of watch winders on tinternet question is whether anyone would trust their use on a reasonable watch.

any one recommend one (and yes if it is a go then i will likely be offering my dad his watch back)

Crikey, how often are you having to wind it? I have an early '40s watch which gets wound about twice a day. Loses about half a minute a day at the moment. Surely it's not that much hassle to wind?

IMO, winders are only really a good idea if you;
a - Have multiple watches and aren't wearing them all regularly
b - are lazy.

😉

Ungrateful sod.

My dad gave me a wonderful heirloom and I have to wind it up.

I would take pride in winding it up, thinking all the time how wonderful it was that my dad think to give me such a thing.

Is this an automatic movement?
If it is hand wind only, then a watch winder would not work.
All a watch winder does is shake the watch to simulate being on your wrist.
Keep the watch and buy your dad a nice auto one - that winds buy the action of being on his wrist.

i seem to be constantly winding it - wound it 2 hours ago and its stopped again.

it has just had a full service

never had a winder before but this seems excessive and there seemed a ready solution to the "problem"

lol .. you shouldn't have to wind it every two hours. 😕

Sounds like whoever serviced it wasnt very careful to check it was fine before they gave it back. They should have kept an eye on it for a couple of days after the "service" to make sure it was working correctly.

Find where it was serviced and take it back. Clearly not done properly.

m_f, he did say he'd give it back to his dad if he could get a decent winder for it. not that ungrateful really.

I have several manual wind watches ,the one with the least power reserve needs winding about once every 30hours or so,the best every 56 hours.
If it needs winding every couple of hours it needs serious attention.
I'd imagine it hasn't actually wound down rather the mech is getting stuck/jammed and the time is stopping.

I'd take it back for a PROPER service as the original was probably not up to much.
