I wear Dockers quite a bit (I know, I know - but not the regular Fat Retired 'Merican kind, the more normal ones).  My problem is (and I have some new ones that I'm feeling all "new trouser" about) when I was them.  I try to wash them on minimum iron, cool and inside out, but they invariably get twisted and and up with some creases.  That's not the biggest issue.  The biggest issue is that the creases tend to also be colour marks.

Can anyone suggest anything to keep my exciting new trousers exciting as long as possible?  My google-fu so far suggests delicate, mild washing powder and cold (not cool).  Anything better?  A colleague of mine dry cleans his, but there's no way I'm going to arse around doing that.

hand wash them?

or if machine washing maybe a more delicate detergent - I find non-bio detergents are less aggressive to colour than bio but you can also get detergents intended for coloured clothes

Or... Buy other trousers? Whats the point of being brand loyal if they're difficult to look after?

They probably weren’t even made down the docks.

Because I can get them from Amazon (or any other store) just by choosing the colour and the size.  No trying on or getting them shortened or whatever.  I guess if I could find an alternative so widely available (even when I'm travelling) that I could do the same with, I could do the same with them, but I haven't yet found an equivalent*

*Or indeed looked for one. 🙁

I think its worth your while doing a bit of that - there are plenty of other brands that have reliable sizing. But if you also find something that easier to care for / better quality you'll not have to buy so often.

As with fancy jeans, either hand wash flat in the bath (they then take ages to dry because of no spinning) or fold them and machine wash on 30 deg or cool, short wash, slow spin, with a wool specific detergent, Dreft or suchlike.

Washing dark coloured chinos is really a PITA and gets expensive when it goes wrong . Having had many pairs develop 'colour creases' over the years, I'm now very fussy about how they are washed, I tend to find that an inside out 30°C wash on their own followed by drying over my bannister rail yields good results. I only ever iron them on the inside. When they accidently get chucked in with the other darks, it's a total lottery if they come our wearable or with those annoying pale lines.

Incidentally, these pales line are caused by abrasion of the fabric surface, this results in an increase in light scattering which makes them appear paler. Therefore anything you can do to prevent abrasion on the creases, helps to prevent the lines developing. Washing them on their own allows them to move more freely in the drum and not develop a static crease. If you have a full drum, the clothes get locked in a position and the agitation does the damage (Did some textile science in a past life...)
