... some ned woman give her kid one hell of a smack. Made me think that the woman needed the bullet as I would never hit my kids.

What are your thoughts on smacking kids?

If smack's good enough for me, it's good enough for the kids.

You shouldn't give smack to kids, start them off on something lighter like cake.

Also is there any need for the term "ned woman" in your initial question? Or is smacking your child only associated with certain social classes?

Surely you guys realise the seriousness of this situation?

The poor woman has no doubt had one bite and now just can't stop.

I was royally beaten as a child. Beaten even when I hadn't done anything wrong.

Hasn't made me violent. I haven't done time and I'm not known to my local Police force.

Why didn't you run over and pick the kid up (obviously checking first that it hadn't got any broken legs or anything...)?

This is a serious thread about a serious issue.

Then why include the "ned woman" phrase? Just ask the question.

Why not report it to the police. It is illegal after all

Is this meant to mean it's acceptable?

IMO it's not, but I'm not a parent and can't imagine it's easy.

Is smacking illegal? I vaguely recall debate about it but didn't know that it had actually been legislated against.

Good job I decided early on that I wasn't every going to smack my son considering I didn't know... Kids really do need an instruction manual ๐Ÿ˜‰

I've got children. Never smacked them, never felt the need to.

Hitting baby goats is something completely different though.

Whats a Ned woman

A Ned is like a Scottish chav.
Usually unemployed, kappa shell suit wearing, thunderbird cider drinking youths.
Some say its short for Non Educated Delinquent.

theyEye is more correct. The original post should read "some nedette give her nedlet one hell of a smack."

Although strictly speaking seeing as it was in Edinburgh the term should be Gadgey.

what we need is more greggs bakeries, any geordie charva knows that the best way to calm a child is with a sausage roll, or council dummies as they are known as in Newcastle

Depends on the situation. Mine is very hyperactive and he winds me up like nothing else when we go for the weekly food shop.

I have to drag him about kicking and screaming but he usually wont shut up so I end up giving him chocolates, pic n mix and cans of pop on the way round the supermarket, just to give him something to fill his gob with.

I often end up giving him a slap round the legs when Ive had enough but then I feel bad and take him to KFC as a treat.

The thing is Im a bit worried about him, he's not like the other kids in his class (he's an only child so he's spoilt rotten) He's only about 10-12 years old but he looks like an apple. I was thinking of taking away his mobile phone and sending him to the phone box 500yds up the road if he wants to ring anyone, just as a bit of exercise. Im struggling really, what should i do?

Smacking kids is a bit of an over reaction, a bit like 'giving someone the bullet' for such a minor crime. ๐Ÿ™„

my thoughts are that there is nothing worse than some do-gooder troll telling me how to raise my children and what I can and can't do
Especially do gooders prejudiced by class and who think that something they dont agree with deserves a death sentance ๐Ÿ˜‰

I was waiting in the barbers when the fella ahead of me in the queue asked his kids to sit quietly. They weren't being told, so he picked one up and slammed him down into the seat. Poor kid just went silent.

I, like you, had no idea what to do.

In Oz I believe the equivalent to Ned/Chav is "Bogan".
