What shamelessly materialist things do you currently desire, why, and how likely are you to purchase them in the near future?

Please feel free to start a different thread about the rights and wrongs of this 🙂

I'll go first:

1) New caravan, for holidays and races, hopefully in the next couple of years.
2) Wide angle lens, for taking pictures, hopefully before the summer's gone and I've left the mountains
3) Floor loom for Mrs Grips, so she can make blankets and bedspreads, within a year 🙂
4) Tripod, for macro pictures, within a year

1) smartphone - unlikely

Thats the only material good I have been coveting recently - which is surprising as I don't even have a mobile.

Other than that nothing really. Dunno if thats sad lack of ambition or being fulfilled with my lot.

Really fancy another tattoo.

Or some pet fish.

A proper workstand would be useful.

I'm not that good at shameless materialism - at the moment I'd rather have more spare time than more stuff.

Udder - that looks fab, I wish I could sail. My father in law lives by a big lake that's connected to the Great Lakes, and he has a boat (ok so it needs work..) Just need to make it over there in summer time with enough time...

everything else is just Stuff

Yep, and as such qualifies for this thread. No philosophy here.

Oh and please state why you want the things.

Dave, you play guitar too?
What bikes?

Not philosophising, but all the bikes are good, no upgraditus at the mo, house is good, campervan is good (nearly sold it but I love it too much) and running sweet, wifey is top, animal menagerie are all healthy and happy
I'm hungry and want coffee is all

Kahni - I too am happy with the bikes. I just want one decent one for the different kinds of riding I do and that's ok. Next one I get will be a track bike, since they are kind of mandatory for track racing 🙂

A fancy carbon road bike

Bike bits...
New saddle for road bike, fizik arione probably.
Power tap hub so I can finally return the test wheel to my LBS.

Boat wants...
Sold my RS400 recently so now boatless. Quite fancy going back to a laser.

Shed wants...
Want to replace two of my sheds with a big brick built outbuilding. Project for next year maybe.

A new more exciting job would be good too but that's not really a material thing.

Ok, so you dragged me in.

I don't have desire for objects (so much), I have desire to DO things. Some of those things need objects unfortunately.

3. Pair of Conti GP4S tyres for commuting on my carbon road bike. Distinctly extravagent.

Walking trousers that don't fall down or look stupid.
Ipad, Iphone, Ilaptop thingy.
Kindle
PS3
Spare Cotic Soul, Cotic Soda.
Carbon Road bike, steel roadbike, cross bike, BMX, full Suss, new commuter, BMX.
A motorbike, and a off road motorbike, and a quad bike.
A house to my design.
A garage to my design
A shed to my design
A Ferrari bike van thing (with a cannon).
A million holidays.
An electric guitar that plays what I'm thinking.
A unicorn.
World Peace, and an end to poverty, everywhere.
The ability to invent anything, so I could own the worlds first Chainsawphone.

I'm not really hankering for much at the moment.

I'd quite like a big campervan and a big motorbike but I'd never fit the former up the drive and the latter would see me dead so it's probably good I have neither.

Molgrips that one comes second to the teleportation device.

It would mean I could leave work on a Friday and wake up Saturday, somewhere else, fully rested. I might even get a spinning bike, rowing machine and jacuzzi put in.

My home boradband to work quicker (not really material thing) - hopefully it'll get sorted soon.
A service for my Cannon 18-75 (it errors on every flash shot at the moment) - chance of getting it - not very
A service for my rear shock - it's making a squishing sound but performing ok so I figure it'll need doing at the end of the year.
A Honda Civic type R - really want - again unlikely to happen for at least a year.
A BBQ and some garden furniture as this is my first year of having a garden in about 10 years. Actully guarenteed to happen as we have invited people to the bbq even with nowhere to sit and nothing to cook it on.

Things my money is likely to go on instead:
A washing machine where the spin cycle doesn't sound like a rocket launch (bearings are shot)
A new energy efficient boiler in the airing cupboard - not the crappy old back boiler we have now in the lounge - then I'll probably need to re-decorate the lounge 🙁

Still all in all I actually have lots of great stuff and just got some nice new shoes (Shimano MP66's) in the mail this morning.

I have loads on my dream list, but as far as realistic things within the next month:

Cane Creek Double Barrel shock
New flat pedals
New stem & bars
New mtb bike for the mrs

Within next 12 months:
new house with garden and workshop

Thats it really but im sure the list will dramatically increase once i move back to the UK

Without even taking the piss this is my current want list.

1. New car for me maybe a 335D touring
2. New car for the Mrs a Kia Sportage or a Ford C-Max
3. Conservatory
4. A 29er xc bike

Those are the semi realistic wants if we went unrealistic lottery winning wants we would be here all day.

A ConceptSailRacing mast for my Finn..... it may make me faster (probably not but looks lovely in a sexy carbon mast-type way)
[img] [/img]
But at £3k I doubt it's going to happen - thing of beauty though (eye of the beholder content).

oh.... and an iPad (work type thing that 'may' happen)
More work.

Bennt-Udder: Merlins look fab, never sailed one though. Somewhat pricey I think but absolute bandits on handicap.

Boat wants...
Sold my RS400 recently so now boatless. Quite fancy going back to a laser

quite a good time to sell the 400 I think, but not a good time to buy a Laser (check out the massive issues that threaten to screw the class completely - including dropping form the Olympics). Finn mate.... you want a Finn 🙂

1. Quickly find a job in accountancy when I graduate.
2. That lovely carbon/steel Lemond from Classifieds.
3. Volvo V70 (XC or normal).

That should be it 🙂

New wheels for my Soda (next month)
New bars and Ti Spring for my Uzzi (next couple of months)

Fast prime lens and a way of doing offboard flash for my camera - next 6 months. Maybe a tripod too.

New house not in London. This is mostly dependent on some b~gger finally ponying up some cash for our flat. Then the dream bike store/workshop to go with it. ASAP please!

New custom xcr or Ti roadbike - next 4 years.

Pair of Tannoy GRF loudspeakers, plus a big enough listening room to make owning them worthwhile. Pipedream

BMW 335d touring with all the toys. Highly unlikely short of a lottery win.

Lotus Elise, but I'd settle for a supercharged MX 5. Maybe (very maybe) in the next 10 years....?

Someone to do the slabbing in my back garden that i'm putting off doing myself

Although happiness at not having or wanting any of those things would be better than having them

A roof rack and cycle carrier for my car so I can get out and explore the trails around here as I am becoming a little bored of my local ones.

The only way the purchase will be funded will be if I agree to let my wife go ahead and get hew carpets for the upstairs of the house.

A pee when you are just about to burst ranks up quite highly with a poo as well I reckon.

Whilst watching a film with the Mrs last night it occured to me that I would absolutely love to go into a guitar shop and pick out the one that I liked the best completely independant of the price (rather like I did with my Cervelo R3SL 😳 )

As it is, I need to get a lot better with the second hand one I bought before I can justify such an act of abandon.

A very low maintenance G/F or _ _ _ _ buddy would be nice , its been a while. . .

Settle for a newer Passat / Audi A6 estate around a 52 MY with a 5 digit milage , and maybe a new 85L FSW board to replace the one i snapped last year.

Thing is i have the ability to buy a lot of stuff , but its just stuff.

I want:

a) a static caravan in Eifel National Park (plan on getting this within the year)
b) a long wheel base T4 Caravelle (need to get this within the next six months or so)
c) an unlimited book budget (unlikely to ever happen)

And a whole bunch of other things that I can't now remember.

I want one of those chainsaw phones that thebunk is going to invent.

A monkey butler,

A trebuchet for firing a piano down the garden after every Sunday lunch,

An original butterscotch finish Fender Broadcaster,

An RS500 spec Sierra running on steel wheels on narrowed axles and covered in rust, primer and mostlr beige with some different coloured panels,

A Laverda Jota, or Norton Commando in cafe racer trim.

Another Corvette.

That's it really, a moderate lottery win should do it please.

After 6 months with neither, I have just bought:

1. a sofa; and
2. a bed.

It has been an expensive month. The sofa is unbelievably marvellous, and I can barely express how much I am looking forward to the bed. I am utterly, pathetically sick to my bones of sleeping on the floor, and was repelled and horrified to find a mouldy patch under my nest the other day. So I did what I said I wouldn't do and bought the bed on credit. Really, for the moment I am sated. 🙂

In the very long term, I would like to own a small flat with a bit of west-facing garden and a reasonably well-ventilated bathroom. But that's going to take a while.

To live by a huge lake surrounded by huge mountains in BC.
Even though I still earn a relatively modest salary (compared with stoner etc), I'm so used to having f*** all that I feel like a popstar! In reality, I'm positively overjoyed not to be living hand to mouth as I did for so long.

Blue Ford Transit, with wide white stripes running over the top, lowered, excessively fat wheels, pimped out in back as a day van, with a nice crisp 351 running through an auto, with line lockers.

Oops, nearly forgot the nitrous...

Anyhow, that would be a nice start.

OP - a 10-20mm Sigma isn't a want, it's a necessity. A tripod is an absolut basic - like breathing. Go spend some cash.

Personally, I'd quite like a shiny new car to make my clients think I'm a success (I am, but I like my old, rusty Focus estate - it'll swallow bikes and it's already so manky I really don't care if they're covered in dog poo).

No interest at all in watches or yachts.
