My Berguhaus Storms have bitten the dust, so I need replacements.
TBH these let in water pretty quickly, especialy in wet grass.

I don't know if they have improved much, but I'm tempted to go for some all leather boots.

Any recommendations based on real experience

ones that fit your feet are generally regarded as the best! seriously though, you are best going into a shop that has a wide variety of boots for you to try and they should be able to measure your feet accurately (width too). if they can't do that for you, go somewhere else. I personally wouldn't add toomuch weight to other people's recommendations as they don't have your feet.

I spent an afternoon in my local shop trying on boots. Ended up with some Asolo's as they fitted me best.

I've bought expensive boots in the past, but keepgoing back to Hi-Tec.They are comfortable and keep my feet dry.
As other posters have stated what suits one, might hobble another.

I was really asking about materials, though I didn't make that clear.
Most of my walking is local countryside i.e muddy grassy un used paths. I find my boots get very wet as they brush through wet grass. So I was thinking all leather with liberal proofing?

My old army boots were great for this, I did a search, but I think the ones I had were discontinued years ago. They were the low cut ones with a Vibram sole.

Brasher Hillmaster GTX, paired with a decent pair of gaiters for the long grass.

I don't reckon there's much to challenge Hillmasters for the sort of walking you describe where a stiff sole and rock resistance isn't needed.

A very comfy pair of boots - and easy to get resoled when the time comes.
