Potential problem with my van. Driving in the dark, the lights seem to fade a bit when I change gear (as the clutch/gear re-engages), also sometimes when accelerating. When I stop it smells like burning clutch. Doesn't always happen and often when it's cold.

Fanbelt?
Clutch?
The dreaded DM Flywheel?

It's a 57 plate, 2.5 130 BHP.

No DMF is noticed most when starting from cold as a big rumble/rough ideal/lots of noise.

That's not a fault i've heard of before, I'd guess gates coupling to the alternator.

It could be lots of things, but check theres nothing running hot, pulleys, alt belt tension.

There may be a charging problem, loose battery conection?, or two seperate faults

Handbrake cables/caliper seized-(smell)..hth

There is no alternator belt on these engines, it's done via a gates coupling arrangement.

Does your van have a diesel particulate filter (DPF) if so that would explain the burning smell.
