Me and the lad are riding more together and so I'm looking at bike carting options.
I do quite fancy a van (again) and with the daft residuals, its hard to look beyond a T5 of some description.
A LWB would be OK, maybe a second row of seats would be useful, but what about the 1.9 vs the 2.5 and auto vs manual.
Or make the case for a vivaro/trafic/iLoad/Toyota etc.
TIA
If you have the cash then t5 values make it it best choice financially but as a vehicle imo it's no better than than a transit or Renault. Merc vans seem to rust.
Guess it depends if you intend to keep it long term or not and how much you want a fashion statement.
For me the most comfy van to drive so far is the Renault master but swb ones are not very common , a small master is not very small
5k
IN true stew fashion, vw caddy.
Get an ex British gas one, maxi version.... Bikes etc will all fit in, good option over a 5k t5 that has been to the moon.
I wouldn't want the sort of T5 that 5k can buy.
I sold my 58 plate 1.9 140 with 190k on the clock & a basic rear conversion for 8k last year. It was in pretty good condition and mechanically sound with new turbo, intercooler etc but its the luck of the draw at that end of the price range. Too much old tat tatted up with cheap stick on eBay bits & sold on.
Where did you sell it Matt? Mines is going up for sale next month, I'm thinking Pistonheads, canny really be arsed with ebay and gumtree timewasters.
Some good points above. I don't want a caddy, I want to be able to wheel in a large 29er with both wheels on, and be able to get changed in the back of it. The resale value of the t5 is attracting me to them - even the ones that have been to the moon and back.
What other options to consider?
Transit - too rough and rusty?
Sprinter - too rusty
Ducato - too big
Peugeot expert or Hyundai iload?
Those are not residuals it's just tied up money and a highly vested interest in keeping an old van going so you don't lose your residuals.
Unless your buying a new one of course where you will benefit from the spending of the money for a new vehicle and the warrenty that goes with.
But anyway at the risk of pointing out the elephant in the room .
Geoff meet Greg , Greg meet Geoff.
Greg's selling a transporter - Geoff would like to buy a transporter. Match made in heaven 🙂
😆 @ Terry.
Geoff, if yer interested or want a blether about my T5 experience, drop me an email and I'll give you my number, no probs.
It's a 2007 LWB 2.5 FYI.
Mine sold on eBay, advertised elsewhere but just got loads of tyre kickers and dreamers.
