Not owned one, but worked on a few as a camper van converter and can say that if I needed a large vehicle other than a van (i.e. if i had kids) it would be the only people carrier I would look at.

I guess it depends on age and all that, but the T4 shaped 'velles (90's and early 00's) are what i'm used to - very nice. the newer T5's just look even better. They are really well made and have good residuals if looked after. If the price is right....

Had a T4 for the last 4 years and love it. The thing has taken us from one end of Europe to the other, carried tonnes of camping gear, numerous mountain bikes... all without a hiccup.

What's more, we were camping for a month in northeastern Germany last summer and found ourselves surrounded by them (giving rise to wandering eye on my part). It was like a convention, but their varying ages and uses also attested to their durability and infinite practicality.

On a mechanical note, find out what engine the one you are looking at has; you can't go wrong with the 2.5L tdi.

Living in the Lakes I have grown to hate the bloody things... mainly cos they are always infront of me doing 20mph and NOT PULLING INTO LAYBYS.

Other than that - they do look pretty good 😉

If you do get one though, make sure it has an engine eh 🙂
