There used to be an option in Explorer to show file extensions. Does it still exist in the satanic OS that is Vista?
I want to be able to tell the difference between hello.doc and hello.docx and I don't give a sh1t what icon you display, just tell me the ****in file extension.
And breath...

Windows Explorer
Press Alt key
click menu Tools -> Folder Options
click second tab View
Change the settings as required...
