Hello all,
We've decided to give sky tv the heave-ho in H manor and gone for one of them flashy tivo boxes on virgin (saving the princely sum of £20 a month).
Anyway, are these tivo boxes any good?
Cheers

If its half as good as the original TiVo then it's brilliant, and slightly too clever! - after a couple of weeks you'll rarely ever have to remember to record anything ever again - as it will have already be intending to record it for you!

It's a shame they made the mistake of letting sky do the customer service originally! - that was a true schoolboy error!

It's good. My only two gripes are, the bloody bong noise it makes. And the amount of buttons you have to press to watch something. The last menu option should say, do you really, really really want yo watch this?

Agree with all of above. Does make you start to question your sanity/memory occasionally though with a lot of "I don't remember recording THAT" moments due to its 'learning' your viewing/recording habits.

Also agree that the interface needs a little polishing as it can be convoluted at times.

slainte 🙂 rob

just got TiVo, it's certainly impressive and it just seems to work - the software isn't amazing but it does the job. I do tend to record stuff and then never even watch it, but that's not TiVo's fault.

how do you turn the boing off then?

I've got a 1tb Tivo box coming next Tuesday, got to be better than my Sky+HD box - "yes Anytime + is working......for 5 minutes, then we'll switch it off, and while we're at it we'll try to miss the start/ending of every programme you record till the end of time"

Got a TiVo about a month or so ago. We got the smaller disk (500 Gbyte) and just record everything we want and delete next to nothing. Not sure that it has learnt our likes yet as it keeps recording live football matches! We got the "Bong" turned off when we had an engineer over to sort out some signal issues - otherwise great. User Interface needs some work to clean it up but overall very usable. We had our V+ HD box put in another room, when you use it, it reminds you of how good the TiVo is!

except that I think it dealt with SD pictures a little better. But the interface was way slower.

Still got mine for backup.

Didn't like it!

Too much arsing about with menus, no reminders and a mind of it's own when it came to recording stuff.

Returned it and had my V+ HD back, interface might not look as pretty but I find it far less frustrating to use 🙂

Had mine for about 3 months - it works great. Agree with nearly all the above. Even after 3 months I don't think it's learning my viewing habits and it wants to record every BBC News bulletin going despite me giving the news "3 thumbs down". Any ideas?

While we're on the subject of Virgin, I had a mail that they'd upgraded my broadband speed from 10Mbps to 30Mbs. However, when I've done a speed test I still only get ~5Mbs download - same as before. Any other experiences?

I like all the comments above, thanks everyone.
How does the hd picture compare to sky+ hd? as I was quite impressed with that.
zedbedboy- we had a letter saying ours was upgraded too, I haven't noticed a difference either 😕
