I'm with Virgin (tv, phone and broadband) and want to record stuff off the tv (yes I have lived without doing this for many years), but the time has come (well it'll keep the kids quiet), but it seems the only way is to hire a Tivo box off Virgin - or could I just buy a Tivo box off flea'bay, plug it in and away I go?

Thanks

I use a freeview pvr but only has a menu guide for freeview which more than suffices for us.

I think you'll need Virgin to set-up your Tivo box so buying off ebay is a non starter also the kit belongs to Virgin so it shouldn't be sold on..

I had a V+ box and rang Virgin to see what deals I could get, after a bit of discussion they gave me the Tivo box and installed the V+ box in another room with 60meg broadband and reduced my payments by £4 per month !! But I did pay the £50 installation fee

bugger, thought that might be the case. Thanks very much.

Freeview pvr would suffice. Thanks.

But buying a freeview pvr will cost you more than you will pay virgin to switch to TiVo (prob about £50 after some easy haggling)
If your staying with virgin it's a no brainer, for £50 it offers far more than just a basic pvr recorder - YouTube and other online 'apps', tv on demand amuch bigger hard disc etc

how more a month do you pay? I pay nothing for tv at present.
