My trial on premiere pro has just run out and I can't justify the £450 to get the licence (yet). What do you use that's free and a decent package?

I record .mov

Ps, I can also confirm that Pook has fallen down the fashion stairs, got up climbed a tree then fell down the clothing ugly branches.

Windows movie maker

No fancy effects but they tend to look cheap anyway. Easy to use and doesn't hog system resources. I've got an older dual core 64bit Athlon with 8 gig of ram and it runs perfectly smoothly when editing 1080 Go Pro footage whereas Adobe Premiere or Sony Vegas just grinds the system to a halt

PP CS6 here. Easy to use, does everything on the fly, no need to wait to see results of effects and things.

Decent and free? I don't think there is such a thing. A quick google suggest Lightworks & Avidemux.

Live Movie maker is pretty good if you really want to mess with stuff Blender is free and has loads of tools if you can get your head round it!

Avisynth and Virtualdub - not the most user friendly, but very powerful.

I've been using Sony Vegas Pro for a while. Not super intuitive to start off with, but does pretty much anything you could want, once you've worked out how of course!

Cheers, Rich

Switch to Linux and grab kdenlive if you want free and powerful.

Otherwise download and install (if it's not already part of your version of windows) Movie Maker 2.6 - ignore Movie Maker Live or whatever they called it.

Vegas here... Though you need to be careful, some of the variants are hopeless with gopro footage, something up with the codecs that prevents smooth preview playback. (even if you don't use a gopro, it's not a good sign that the cheaper versions are so kneecapped)

It's not free, but well priced, and the demo is infinitely abusable if you're of a mind to do that, you just need to uninstall thoroughly.

I use windows movie maker. You need to download the full version as the one that comes packaged with windows is missing a few features. Its free and does the basics. Only issue is conversion into the right format, it can be a bit fussy.

I've been trying the Garmin Virb Edit software. It is pretty basic for what editing you can do. The main feature is you can use a GPS track to add overlays for speed, elevation, heart rate etc.

A Sony Movie Studio user here, I like it but never do that much other than add a bit of music etc, slow mo if I can be bothered.

I find it quite easy to use.

Another vote for Windows Movie maker. Free, and does a surprising amount. Too many trims and splits will crash it tho. Save as you go..

Never had Premier drag my PC into death, it uses the resources that are there but you can set affinity to deal with any lack in processing power. It only struggles for me when I'm trying to do a heap of complex processor intensive work stuff while rendering.

Windows Movie maker will be like dog crap in comparison...

Try Premiere Elements for less or look at the cloud subscription.
