So, did you speak to the neighbour?

Here you go, you busted record, you...

I'm a pretty fair person and I'm rarely up for an argument as i prefer to talk to people, which is what i did with bloke across the back and its now sorted.

Yep my friends and i do take the piss but fortunately we know where piss taking stops and bullying begins so quite amazingly dont do the latter. we also recognise when someone is on a back foot especially when more people pile and invariably the brakes are put on because it not a nice thing to do. now thats easy to do when you are face to face and i appreciate that being on a forum it hard to gauge the situation but im not a kick a bloke when he's down sort of person and on this site in the past when i've recognised my involvement i have apologised, christ i even have asked project in the past about his negative persona as it concerns me that people can get to that situation so quickly. saying its just a bit of fun is always going to be the catch all for those who dont give a shit who they upset (seen it at school and in places i've worked) and the number of times its accepted is amazing. but as i say this is drifting way of the original topic into other issues which actually are worth discussing so i suppose it was kind of worth starting!.

Often bullies cannot identify the fact they are bullying.

It's so sad.

It is, it makes me cry. This still wasn't bullying.

Cheers teasel, I just prefer conversation rather than confrontation, as it turns out STW is not the best place for it.

Have look at the brokenman thread

Bullying is subjective though, maybe the OP does feel bullied that wasn't my intention I made shit and joke meaning no harm by it. I can see other people tried to do shit puns too but the OP feels it got out of hand, that's his call it is him who is effected not really anybody else.

I have to admit i didn't sleep well last night (which made me late into work), I just don't really do the whole jumping on someones head thing and bullying is so subjective that for some people its water of a ducks back. I really am not a confrontational guy and i tend to try and explain myself if people misunderstand what i am saying and i really do try to see others point of view. I just felt that there were those who see that as a weakness and somehow that allows them to put the boot in. I will say that i don't feel bullied but it felt like it was heading that way. PP post is an example of this as he clearly did not read what i had said and then repeatedly tried to get a rise out of me even though the answer was already there. My advice is perhaps people should be less inclined to jump in without considering what has already been written, again i thank those who helped defend me, this really is not what i was expecting of an innocent comment made on a sunday afternoon, it wasn't my intention to upset people with a non constructive thread but that what it seems to have become.

I'm adding this thread to my favourites. Tis shaping up nice. Can I accuse somebody of being racist and or sexist just to ensure we hit at least five pages?

Don't worry 99.9% of threads on here are not constructive.

Edit:

The sky's purple.

No it's not ya racist

To be honest , it was hard to pick out amongst the whining.

and then repeatedly tried to get a rise out of me even though the answer was already there.

Yep, ....you and everyone else who comes on here and makes posts about , what in essence, are trivial matters.

If you think I was bullying you in any way then, by all means, report my posts to the mods and I'll accept their judgement. That's how the forum works.

If I'm honest, I saw your original post on Sunday and, despite it being fertile ground for my puerile sense of humour, decided against posting anything because I could kinda smell the crazy on it.

So, genuine question, in an attempt to engage in an actual conversation, ........what did your neighbour say when you did actually speak to him?

Basically he's using some local farmers to dispose of the soil and they are only available at weekends and evenings, which basically means the build will be very drawn out (6+ months) he did get a quote from my builder but he was too expensive. I'm not looking forward to the summer because it look like our garden will be pretty much a no go area due to the noise and mess but the design looks interesting so it will be good to see the result. There, you see it's called a conversation which I'm happy to engage in at any time and it's not that hard! As a side note I showed these posts to a friend in education who specialises in online bullying, she agreed that it wasn't, however, she did say that this I something that they see quite a bit with "packs" of kids and adults alike. It can escalate quickly and they generally advise not to engage as it really is a no win situation. I probably shouldn't even write this as it just feeds the situation, she noted despite my efforts to explain my self there will always be those who will willfully ignore you to press thier own views. It would appear she it right with some on here who really enjoy digging into people. I suppose at the end of the day this is only a cycling forum an I can walk away and yes some of the posters on here are genuinely empathetic and helpful, others not so much.

what did your neighbour say when you did actually speak to him?

I'm also wondering how that conversation went.

Neighbour : "Oh, sorry, do you work nights ?"
OP: "no"
Neighbour : "sorry... I'm struggling to see why this any sort of problem then"

I'm not bullying, or trying to start an argument, I'm just genuinely puzzled why it would even raise an eyebrow for someone to be doing a bit of work in the middle of the afternoon ๐Ÿ˜

Thanks for the update.

I and, I'm pretty sure almost everyone else on here, are just trying to connect with other people in a friendly way.

Sometimes that manifests as a bit of gentle pisstaking. No one meant to offend you. I certainly didn't.

You may well be right but being told to get a life is not what I'd call friendly, quite the opposite. You accused me of whining when you were shown that you hadn't read my post again I don't see that as friendly, in fact you used it as a diversion. Still, as was pointed out to me some people do treat these things as a game and I shouldn't react. Well fair point seeing it from others point of view I can see why they do it.

I wouldn't be happy with six plus months ongoing for a simple job to be fair. Could he not leave the soil somewhere in a big pile. Seems odd and I understand being annoyed by not being able to enjoy your garden in your down time.

Thread getting back on track. That has to be a first ๐Ÿ˜‰

6 months? What's he doing that's going to stop you going in your garden for the whole of 6 months?

They are using a big new Holland tractor and trailer to shift the soil which takes up a good chunk of the entrance road to our estate, you have to drive over the pavement to get in/out. Not an issue in my pos car but people have had to leave there cars on the main road. He's got another concrete pour next weekend so I'll make sure my cars out first because I'm doing a sponsored walk with the kids, forearmed is forearmed as it were!. Hopefully that'll be the concrete done so we can get in and out!. Trying not to moan but the if the effin and jeffin that was happening on Saturday is anything to go by then I'd rather the kids were inside!

Being only 8 and 10 that's probably not that case and my wife who works there would back that up. Same probably can't be said at high school and in any case I really am not a fan of swearing in front children and surprisingly is one of the few things I will call people out on.

Seriously though. 4pm is not late. My neighbours, some of which seem to be running some kind of building business in their garden, fire up saws and diggers at all kinds of hours and 4pm+ is not unknown. I just deal with it.

I could take it to the police or council. They'd also tell me just to deal with it. Unless it's a noise nuisance in that it's in excess of a legal limit for long duration.

If it upsets kids, well I'll throw in my old git moan... neighbour's kids under 6ish, way past their bedtime in the garden screaming their heads off until 11pm (has been after midnight a couple of times). Adults just leave them to it and then come out wondering why the kids are crying as they're tired and been fighting. Bet they're a nightmare in the morning.

Annoys the crap out of me in summer when the windows have to be open to keep cool and all I hear is screaming kids all night.

But I deal with it.

Wouldn't say 4pm is late. I'd be getting home about then from work so would do stuff at home then. Drawn out renovations next door can be a drag however that's having neighbours for you. If you generally get on or at least don't dislike them it's just the way it goes. Better to chat direct with them than post on here looking for sensible answers most of the time

Mr angle grinder / circular saw man is still out there tonight, after 6pm. Outrage! ๐Ÿ‘ฟ

๐Ÿ˜›

Am I bothered? Well I wouldn't be. He's been doing this for months on and off and afternoons into evening, that's the noise I get from neighbour down the road. Not building work or renovation. I think it's his business. Not sure what.

I've just tuned it out usually, but after this thread is niggling now. I feel grumpy and need to complain. On the Internet.

After 10pm and another neighbour has started up the drill in the garden. Just heard someone have a go at them, stopped now. Problem solved for now.

say what you fellas... I don't give a shit for the following reasons:
1. spent the whole day with my fantastic kids doing a sponsored walk for their school and raised a decent amount!.
2. had confirmation from the gov on a grant approval which will secure work for me for the next two years
3. signed renewal contracts with our biggest customer which means i can pay off the mortgage (and no im not moving!).
4. came to appreciate that being upset by nobbers really isn't worth it so crack on with things that are.
I'm in a very good place at the moment as a lot of stuff that was stressing me has now gone away and i can have a bit more perspective..... might even buy some trousers
