Went up onto my roof to have a look at the chimney rebuild i had done this winter; i don't think they had thought that I would go up and have a look (...but lucky old me has a load of rope access stuff and hoisted myself onto the scaffolding).

So beyond a few bits, things look good...but the vented caps they've put on have literally just been slung into top of the victorian pots...i mean...i doubt they will go anywhere...but should they be mortared in place to stop water going down the inside of the chimney between the terracotta seem of the outer sleeve of the cap and the inner sleeve of the chimney pot?!?!

Ours is like this and cemented in, it was put on 25 years ago as there is no bend in it so when it rained the rain fell on to the fire

Used to put a couple of blobs of clear silicone to stop them rocking about in wind and made removal easier if needed

both my neighbours flew off and hit the side of my dormer smashing roof tiles before landing on my grass... thought we were being carpet bombed.

id want them secured in somehow.
