I am also a long term Tamsulosin user (3 or 4 years now). There were some problems early on when taking it first thing in the day. Getting up too quickly caused a lot of light-headed moments (it's a muscle relaxant ands relaxes them all not just the bladder sphincter). The nurse practitioner in urology said it's best taken at bed time to avoid this. The 400 version has a daily effectiveness of 18 hours, which can cause problems if you're out to the pub after 6pm.

In what way does cutting the tube that lets the tadpoles get a bit of fresh air affect testosterone, Fossy? I thought that testosterone was made in the balls and travels around the body via the bloodstream, not the tadpole tubes? Is that not correct or am I misunderstanding? (and sincere apologies if I am 😉)

The GP damaged blood vessels (easily done), ended up with more surgery on lefty, then things went wrong - check page 1 !!!

The VAS is nerves, tadpole tube and blood vessels - bit like a multicore wire. Get a bit chop happy and sever a nerve/blood vessel = pain.

Thanks Fossy. I always presumed the tiddly little vessels around the tadpole tubes were singletracks, whereas there are plenty of big fat M25 vessels in the sack to direct testosterone out of the nether regions if the singletracks were injured. Every day a school day. Thanks 👍

10+ years for me.

Went to local surgery to get 'done' under local. After 45 mins, the GP gave up...my fear response was too strong. I ended up getting 'done' under general. Slight infection to right bit of the sack and that was it.

Biggest issue was having to provide a 'fresh' sample by a certain time in the morning and it having to be produced within a relatively short timeframe from delivery. My work is <10 mins from lab. I thought long and hard about the best place to crack one out...toilet in gym...unfortunately the cleaners entered. I now remember the toilet behind reception with a smile....

^ But surely its the presence of ANY swimmers dead or alive that's important. Sure there will be some residuals that need cleared out but ....

2 years for me, very little pain or any issues, but I have suffered from very low T that was only discovered about 3 years ago, my doctor reckons I could have been suffering for a very long time, like, many years.

More than likely, my understanding is getting the snip has no effect or a slight rise in T levels.

There's a process for that 😉

Just had a chat with Toby who had it done last Thursday. He says it sucks big time and the bloody cone of shame is just a nightmare when he is trying to get around the house. Hope this helps 🙂

I was sorted about 10 years back at a local surgery.

All good really but my willy does curve to the left now.

What?! I don't think it's just adjustment of aim that prevents the little swimmers from doing their job. At you sure you went to the right place for the work 🙂

A friend of mine had it done and says it is the biggest regret of his life. He had the operation two years ago and still suffers from awful pain.

Had mine done yesterday, no problem at all, no real discomfort just a slight ache when the tubes clamped prior to cauterising, surgeon even showed me the tube with said burn marks during the process.

Slight swelling today but no discomfort at all, will have to see what the next few days brings!!

@fossy

Consider adding your story to www.reddit.com/r/postvasectomypain

Men deserve to have fair warning of what can go wrong and doctors are not willing to do the job.

Regrets? I’ve had a few. But then again, too few to mention.

😁

A bit more on Tamsulosin for those that mentioned it above. It appears that it loses effectiveness over time. 5 and a bit years in and my flow rate during the night/early morning is really poor. It seems that LUTS sets in and I’m on the list for a rebore sometime next year to improve flow.
