It can be done, but its something you'll need to make an arrangement for - by default most hire co's terms will say you won't be able to take them abroad, but talk to the hirer and you can usually agree something. It won't necessarily cost any more, but its something the hire co will need to get agreed with their insurer and whoever deals with their roadside assistance. I've had to get an agreement just to take a van over to northern ireland, although there was no extra cost.

I got one from Luxembourg to the UK. 1500 miles included, fully comp, 280 quid for 2 days. It's not cheap really but less expensive than I thought. It was a "custom" price though
