In an effort to save money on an already out of control budget for our extension, we are looking at mixing paint to match Farrow and Ball colours.
There are lots of varying opinions on DIY forums for B&Q Valspar paint concerning its application and coverage...

Anybody tried it?
Is it any good?

Morning. Yup, it's brilliant. I had them copy some farrow & ball masonry paint and you wouldn't notice the difference. Now everyone in my family uses. My aunt even gets it in the UK to paint their house in France. Do it. Exterior eggshell is great too.

Blag a trade account at b and q and you'll get a decent discount on valspar

I went for the basic version (not self undercoating?) and it did a good job. Just watch out as we were told to give our tester pots a good shake by hand as they don't fit in the wibbly wobbly machine, my wife did this one leaked.

We didn't think anything of it until realising our chosen 5L tin was in fact more pink than the intended creamy with a hint of Terracotta that was in the tester. Subsequently realised it was one of the dosed colours that was leaking out the tester, not the final mixed colour. So the tester wasn't a true match to the name on the sticker.

Took a fair bit of negotiating to get a refund voucher with lots of dipping fingers in the offending tins trying to argue they were identical. (not when dry on the wall!) After that little debacle we went with a Dulux colour to go over the pink, when I got to the checkout it turned out it was on multisave and significantly cheaper so don't blindly go for the Valspar without checking the other aisles!

I thought about the blagging a trade account, reckon I could take in all the required 'evidence' but for my job at BT?!

Just don't buy normal power tools on a trade account, you don't get a warranty!

If you can get paint in the colour you want in Wilko's own brand, get it. It's more like a trade paint formulation and beats pretty much everything for covering power.

Painted a bedroom with Valspar Matt from B&Q. Not cheap, but went on no problem with no drips/runs. Would only use it again to get an exact colour as it is more expensive than a pre-mix.

Here in cork we have a dulux plant and it is the same company who own valspar (as well as polycell, uno, hammerite among others). Used it once a few years ago and it is ok but coverage was not as good as dulux.

I don't like it. The satin is more like matt and it takes an extra coat to cover compared to Dulux trade. Your mileage may vary of course

Not sure this is the case. I believe Valspar stands on its own or although there was some talk of it being bought by PPG. Don't think AkzoNobel own it though.
