Is is secure enough?
I run a monthly backup to a separate hard drive but thinking about using Dropbox as a reserve. What's the best way to do this?

Depends how naughty your goat pron is, but while the free dropbox can take a mirror of files on your system, you only get versioning on paid for offering.
If your data volumes are low, you could set up batch routines to back up to date stamped folders on your pc which reside within your drop box folder, but is probably not a goer if you have loads of music and movies to backup.
