Don't know why this bothers me so much, actually, but I'm happy with the outcome. I hope Pirate number 4 gets dumped at Guantanamo Bay - seems like a good use for that facility.

Thank God for that. I thought he was toast.

Whilst my first instinct is to agree with you, RedThunder, this makes interesting reading...

Nice. I like this video, especially the last part:

even if it would have been better without the "rescuing" bit

Not sure why this was bigger news in the uk than the freeing of the french hostages yesterday. Did we get towed across the Atlantic at some point without me noticing?

Naval ships can't be everywhere, so surely it's time merchant ships had compliments of Marines from various nations stationed on board for just these situations. The pirates aren't going to attempt to board ships when they're faced with heavily armed troops, and they'll never know which ships have Marines on. Makes sense to me. Glad they got the guy back safe.

Wonder if the US Navy just sprayed the pirate boat with the Phalanax/Gatekeeper once the guy was clear? Now THAT would be a lesson in one-upmanship!

Good result but it makes me worry about the safety of future victims of piracy.

Wish I could see the face of Pirate 4 on board the US ship when he realised his pals had been shot and he was all alone. Up till then he was probably feeling pretty big, telling everyone how many million dollars he wanted ๐Ÿ™‚

Agreed that the Phalanax is the best way to welcome these guys ๐Ÿ™‚ I've been on a Type42 when they've done a test firing and you don't really want to be at the wrong end of one!
