As above really.

Currently run OS 10.5 but read good things about Snow Leopard.

Seems a snip at £25 but wonder if many folk have made the switch and found it beneficial.

Cheers,

Mark

I was thinking of upgrading to Snow Leopard today, you beat me to posting the question? Interested to hear what people say about it. I've heard mixed reviews.

I have Leopard on a MacBook Pro and Snow Leopard in my shiny new iMac. TBH I can't really tell the distance. The iMac is way faster but that is probably more to do with the spec than the software.

I like it. It was cheap and it's always nice to get a bit more space on your hard drive, which is one of the things Snow Leopard does, as it is a smaller install than Leopard. Think of it as £25 for about 7gb of internal hard drive space. I also liked getting the 4 finger swipes on my older non uni-body Macbook Pro.

Seems to be- as said, a smaller footprint, latest bootcamp drivers with err 'improved' trackpad functionality for Windows, and best of all, it's fixed the bug which stopped me seeing both the menu bar and dock at the same time when I hooked my macbook up to my external monitor.

I split the cost with a couple of mates as it doesnt ask for any kind of serial on the upgrade disc.

I thought our iMac (18 months old) was definately a bit faster. Also happy to have another 7 Gb of disc space.

£25 - bargain

My MACbook Pro starts way faster in SL than L.
Also as said above, free's up space.
Windows on fusion parition now works even better for the databases that I need to run.

All in all for me worth it

It's faster, and applications seem less prone to ending up 'Not Responding', so I would say do it!

Having recently upgraded an older mac from Tiger I've found it's rather overwhelmed the 1 Meg Ram I have, but that's easily fixed. Aside from a copule of minor glitches with the latest iTunes it's not displayed any tendency to do anything spectacularly stupid yet.

Partner's iMac (core duo) was taking an age to start before SL upgrade and now it starts up reet fast. General day-to-day stuff is a little faster but I have one of the core i7 iMacs and it goes like pooey stuff of a shovelling device!

Interesting thread.

Looks like I might be updating my MBP from L to SL then.

Generally better on SL though occasionally Safari goes all strange but sorts itself out after a second or two.

SAME here, specifically flash, can crash safari now and again. Sure it will be sorted in an update. However, I think snow leopards alot snappeir than leopard and is quite easily worth 25 quid.

Safari is not that great on SL I have given it up already but what with Chrome and Firefox I doubt that is a big enough problem. For me Spotlight is a fair amount slower too though. Which is my biggest issue. Other than that things do happen with a certain amount of speed that didn't on Leopard.

If you are one Leo though don't move yet unless you are desperate to have SL for whatever reason. At 10.5.8 Leo is really stable and refined, SL needs a few more updates. If you are on Tiger though move. Speed increases from Tiger are seriously obvious and also the features you are getting from L and SL.

I'd been having issues with Safari on 10.4, until i made the changes detailed here.

yes, fast.£25? well worth it. you won't notice many of the changes/improvements, but they are everywhere. even as subtle as when selecting multiple items, the highlight slowly fades-shallow i know, but amazing details

Cheers for all the comments folks.

I think I will make the upgrade and also do Mrs LMTTM's laptop too.

£40 for the pair seem a bit of a bargain.

I'll report back once I (computer illiterate 😆 ) have installed etc.

Cheers again.

Mark
