We will be in touch
some of my choices for starters [img]
[/img]love this game (better than doom 3 in my opinion) [img]
[/img] revolutionised the driving genre (with it's freeform sandbox gameworld) [img]
[/img] i just love the relentlessness/humour of it (screaming bomb head guys 😉 over to you 🙂
all the ones i've worked on 😉

Elite underated ? 😯
well, nobody says it's the best game of all time do they? do they? I don't do computer games much these days!
wizball?..
Turbo Esprit, now we're talking.
688 attack sub was creepy as hell to play (especial on 2 connected machines)
Elite is one of the most revered games ever.
Banjo Kazooie was never under rated! Had to be one of the best games for the n64! Would love to play that again.
That's a negative on Elite being under-rated - best game mentioned thus far by a country mile.
Knight lore is probably under-rated - the cognoscenti rate it of course but it's revolutionary status is less well appreciated.
I remember knightlore. going back a bit! Alien8 was pretty good.
Turbo Esprit was superb. First game I can think of where you could just forget about game and go off and wander around and muck about instead. If you ignored the aim of the game it was a sort of grand theft auto before its time. Have fond memories of weaving between the lamp posts to knock down pedestrians.

OK, not underrated, but I wanted to mention it. I still have it along with quite a few other N64 games.
Turbo Esprit was superb.
yes, pretty much a free-roam game for the Spectrum. Well ahead of it's time. The GTA series stands on the shoulders of Turbo Esprit imo.
Fade to Black, the sequel to Another World, PS2.
TT Superbikes by Jester Interactive, again on the PS2.
Insanely hard, superbly rewarding Isle of Man bike racing simulator.
Tourist Trophy, PS2. Gran Turismo, but with bikes.
Super Bomberman on the SNES, best multiplayer ever?
Ikaruga, PS2, old school vertical shooter.
Secret of Mana on the SNES, best Squaresoft RPG.
Ooh, Ikaruga is stellar. Dreamcast, if each had their own. It's not really 'underrated' though...!
I think you're in danger of listing 'must-play classic games' rather than 'underrated games' there though.
Bubbles.
Doom underrated? There's a really heartwarming/breaking story about Animal Crossing.
This game is my favourite of all time more or less...
Freespace 2
Super bishi bashi
Super smash tv
Alien Hominid
The Sentinal was pretty cool, very original game play for its day.
Cougar, you're right, I've got Ikaruga on the DC, not PS2.
In fact, it's upstairs somewhere 🙂
Might just have a Dreamcast evening. Crazy Taxi bowling anyone?
I tried to fire up my dreamcast the other month, wasn't spinning up. Gutted 😥
there was only one era for proper games...
one of the most addictive game ever and the best 'annoying' soundtrack..
and from the same era...
and again...
been a games geek since the specturm 48k, yes my ps3 is a marvel of technology but you couldnt beat the playability of the old skool stuff!!
when full colour proper games came out on the amiga it was like the second coming!!
how could i forget!!!

amazing how big this game was and it came on 2 floppy disks!!!!
i'll take my rose tinted specs off now!
Raceface, yup, still got that one too! Not an easy game by any means.
Will dig out the DC when I get home, not had it set up for ages.
Quite excited tbh, sad isn't it?
Shenmue anyone?
Oh and F Zero GX makes my eyes bleed, how fast?
Ahhh Shenmue: "That day the snow turned to rain". Awesome game, was talking to my mate about it the other day, and he mentioned the fork lift racing, fun, but annoying if you so much as touched anything as you came to a complete stop!
Rusty Spanner that isn't sad at all 🙂 can totally get exited about playing consoles/games that i haven't played for a long time. it's fantastic to be able to get a c64/amiga emulator and play some of my faves from back in the day (i still have most of my amiga a500+ games/no a500+ to play them on unfortunately,as mine is broken 🙁
guys seems the right thread to post, i tried before but didnt get anywhere...
how the hell do you run amiga games on a windows xp laptop?
last time i tried it was a nightmare? couldnt get any games??
any pointers gladly recieved.
(sorry to hi-jack)
WinUAE last time I tried. Also, ADF is a bloody nightmare, better off with pre-ripped images.
ObDisclaimer, This Is Very Old Information.
Actually, ST / Amiga-ing these days is a very good question. I might have a go tonight.
BLOODY CARRIER COMMAND!
Good gods, man. I'd forgotten that game. Grade one classic.
monkey_boy try here also http://www.lemonamiga.com/ they have information about all things amiga (emulation advice/forums e.t.c) and not forgetting c64 lovers also http://www.lemon64.com/ 🙂
Worked for Interplay and virgin over a 10 year period. Dungeon Master and Balder's Gate would be my fav's. Although Sensible Soccer was always a good 'un.
[edit] - forgot Football Manager (in it's many guises)
cheers racefaceec90
There was a Viking Saga type game on the original Spectrum that I really enjoyed, sort of RPG, then came the first version of Lounge Lizard Larry... we had loads of laughs with that one...not the gameplay but it was just so corny.
About the time I w3as playing Elite first (286 processor time folks) I was also playijng Starglidewr which was cool (then).

I remember that, was it Valhalla? You typed in commands, like 'attack' and stuff, and if you typed in a swear word, a woman came on and slapped your character round the face.
Kevevs, I remember buying Wizball for my C64 back in the mid 80s. Me and a mate played it for a few hours then told my mum this was the game we'd been developing over the past few weeks (me on the graphics, him on the coding, and another mate on the sound/music). She was so impressed that she invited a whole bunch of neighbours in from our street! I remember loads of people being crammed into my bedroom while we 'showcased' our 'achievement'.
EDIT: I also remember Knightlore (got that on Xmas eve from a mate and we played it for days on end). Was a big fan of most Ultimate games; from the days of Jetpac and Lunar Jetman, through to Sabrewulf and Underwurlde. Much better on the Speccy than the C64.
jon1973
Valhalla...spot on! Awesome game! I havwe the game and the spectrum somewhere in the roof..........
Gribbly's Day Out
Always remember how hectic it got when that bastard crab thing suddenly got on your case.
I love a raceface games thread.
Some great overlooked titles mentioned already. TT on ps2, Beyond good and evil being great.
My addition would be Zero Tolerance on the Megadrive. Amazing for it's time, system link cable or online play (no one I knew quite understood what the Internet was back then let alone play a megadrive online, or watch Segas pirate TV) the tension was huge. I've got a sega meganet megadrive modem...
Also probotector on the Super Nintendo. Good times.
Fallout 1&2, so much more depth than the new ones.
This is an epic thread... 🙂
I'm getting misty reading this thread. Still got my BBC model A (upgraded to a B and with a graphics extension chip...woo!), and Amiga in the attic.
Elite is of course the best game ever, but how about Chuckie Egg? Or indeed Yie Ar Kung Fu?
oh god this 😀
Overboard was brilliant, does anyone remember vib ribbon?

Do you remember Castle Quest?
Can remember watching the video loop upstairs in Boots when it first came out (how sad!?). Then played it todeath on holiday.
One of the most addictive games ever:
No pun intended, but this used to rock big time:
Morrowind
Rescue on Fractalus - loved this game...
Rachel
I remember this game being so godamn cool when I was a boy.
does anyone remember vib ribbon?
YES!
me and my friend spent ages playing this though.
Cast your minds back to 1983 ... and laserdiscs ...
Was it not something like 50p a go back then? For 3 lives? Spent a fortune on that in Worthing Pier arcade!
This was mustard back in the day too:
so was this!
No screen shots, but I give you Repton, Total Annihilation and the Descent series. Brill.
Not sure some of the games above are underrated!
Boulderdash is a good call.
My current fav which is more down with the kids than the middle aged posse is Minecraft, no point to the game but utterly addictive.
Doh, beaten to it. Repton!! Also, Altered Beasts(?)

Both classic games. Still play Settlers 2 to this day.
thanks catflees 😀 and to everyone who replied (some fantastic games mentioned/haven't played some of them yet) games are great 😀 another classic underrated game
Citadel is great, but I think it's widely known as a great BBC game. I've absolutely no idea whether it would be fun now after all the great puzzly adventure games that have come since. Games were just so unforgiving back then!
Big fan of
UFO-Enemy Unknown
found as a free download on
underdogs(?)website.
Good thread, but some people, come on! Under-rated != "games that everyone loved".
You know who you are. Doom was a bad start, unless you actually preferred the n64 version, in which case you're a deviant and we'll let it stand.
[/img]
I'm aware this is close to breaking my own rant/rules....
+1 for UFO, forgot that one!
****ing! Carrier Command!!!
Loved that game - played it to death. I remember trying to "uninstall" it from my Dad's 286 PC and deleting C:\command.com
That didn't go down well.
I remember trying to "uninstall" it from my Dad's 286 PC and deleting C:\command.com
🙂 I bet it didn't
