Due to repeated crapping on my front lawn (must be deliberate from an owner that I've yet to catch) I'm getting one of the ultrasonic gizmos. Simple question is - will these work through a window and are they always 'on' as such?

There are some solar powered ones with PIRS but if the owner is so keen on his mutt defecating on my lawn then I guess they'll just nick it if its outside.

This happens right outside my lounge window so I could place it inside.

Camera inside the window might be a better bet? The owner will be able to see it and understand what it's for.

Yeah thought about a camera but it pointing out into the front of the neighbours opposite might annoy them. Not even sure of the legality. Obviously it would be pointed at the lawn but even so.

Also, they could just crap further round the side of the house. Lawn is not deep but is quite long.

Signs won't work, its one obnoxious owner. Caught an old hag letting her dog crap on my flower bed once and 'had words'. Her response was "well build an effing wall then".

I suspect its her or her husband so a sign won't cut it. I hate the idea of cctv but may have to resort. Assume fines will come into play if evidence can be produced?

Post a big banner in your garden advertising the town's inaugural "kick a dog to death day" and admission is simple, "just let your dog crap on my lawn one more time".

Add a bit of drama by training every day in the garden wearing steel toe caps and kicking around a blow-up Labrador.

We've got a sonic repellor thing to stop cats cr@pping in our front garden. It seemed to have no effect at first, but as times gone on it seems to be working.

Initially it was sited in shade so the battery kept dying, but now it gets plenty of sun it just stays on the maximum setting all the time.

I suspect it would not work from inside the house, I think proximity is pretty important, plus it is audible so if it was in your living room it would get annoying.

My neighbour has a cat one. No idea if it works on cats but it stops me from walking past their house. Horrible high pitched noise.

Seems like only me and the kids can hear it, they the seem to think that's cool...

You need to catch him/her again and have firmer words. Have a gardening/diy day so you are ready.

Agree about CCTV. No legal issues in filming anything you like from your own property. If it still doesn't stop the poo, print a still of the perp from the film and attach it to a "Smile, you're on CCTV" sign and hang it in your garden. Or just be awake and waiting - can't beat catching them red-pawed...

Uhmmm, the Claymores REALLY appeal.

However, does anybody know for sure whether or not the ultrasonic things will work through a window? Or indeed whether they can be set to 'on' all the time and not rely on a sensor?

You can put some masking tape over the lens masking out your neighbours. As for the legality, unless anything has recently changed it would be perfectly legal to have CCTV that also covers someone elses property.

You could just tell your neighbour why you have it. 😉

Not an expert by any means but can't really see anything on the sound wavelength really working through glass. Just try having a conversation through it. The ultrasonics would need to be ramped right up to transfer the energy through, especially if double glazed.

If you do get CCTV proof of who is doing it then start posting the turds with pictures attached through their letterbox.

Disgraceful behaviour – I won't even let my dog foul on pavements in front of houses, never mind on lawns and then not even clear it up.

How does the dog get onto your lawn? Spray bleach around the entrance and respray every couple of days/after rain. I'm up a path and someone was letting their dog crap on the path. Sprayed the path - dog stopped coming up the path.
