i've decided to make a survival kit for when i'm going on an epic or away camping/hiking with some buddies. I've had a look online and seen some pre-made budget kits but want to source everything myself.
Along with my kit i plan on having my trusty leatherman supertool so i'll be prepared for the apocalypse if neccessary!
With that in mind i've decided i'll include;
a firesteel, cotton wool (to act as kindling for the firesteel), a button compass, needle and tread, length of fishing line, some fishing hooks, safety pins, small sharpening stone (for leatherman), wire saw and plasters
I think what i've got should cover a lot of bases but has anyone any further suggestions?
Condoms! You never know...especially if your in a South American River they have some nasty bugs that like to crawl up your urinary tract.

A hoof pick.
Stuff that. Burger floating in beans a la ratpack (or other calorifically dense item of your choice - corned beef, chocolate, chorizo), some puritabs, hexamine and some windproof matches.
Add a whistle, some dressings, a photon light / mirror and a survival bag and you've got everything that's realistically needed to "survive" in an emergency in the UK.
Nobody who is having an emergency is going to start catching fish and making a shelter out of branches and bracken.
Don't bother with anything just bring an iPhone 😆
survival bag - thats it. No shortage of water in the UK and it takes weeks to starve.
water purifying tablets ?
Kev
Portable DVD player.
Defo an indian takeaway menu and an android smartphone!
Planning on a circumnavigation of Guildford ?
I'm sure all this was covered in a copy of Battle/Action that I bought in 1979.
A suggestion? Yes, I have one. Get a grip soft lad. That is weekend warrior material if ever there was.
Slide repeat pistol grip shotgun chambered for 3inch magnums with a nice tight choke (remington Wingmaster would be my preference),at least 400 spare rounds, rifled solid slugs are a good call as well. in case of zombies.
Other than that, cash or debit/credit card

Credit card and a girl guide.
Jahwomble, you forgot a hundred rounds of silver tipped solid slugs for werewolves ! I live in fear since Dog soldiers !
Fishing tackle a complete waste of time.
Pack a freeze dried Ray Mears instead.
I've used a survival bag, on the survival phase of the commando course and it didn't do me any favours. The condensation which built up on the inside of the bag made my combats damp. We had just done a river crossing in our pants and it was february in Wales. I'd never use one again, the blankets are much better as it gives a route for the moisture to escape and they're much smaller.
In addition to what you have listed above we also carried snares, a scalpel and water puri tabs.
Pack a freeze dried Ray Mears instead.
Nah, Lofty Wiseman in a can is what you need.
Don't forget to polish the inside of the lid of your Golden Virginia tobacco tin (that you're going to keep all this stuff in) so you can use it as a mirror to signal to aircraft.
lol.
This is Britain. Out of the kit you have you're maybe going to need the compass and some plasters.
A permanent link with STW 😆
