Anyone have the route map that the UCI WC will follow in the mountain bike marathon this year?

Would be good to try the route myself as I'm only an hours drive from the Tweed Valley.

Don’t have the map, but I’d be needing an overnight stop in the middle. 96.5km and 3,500m of climbing - ouch!

It also appears to be going up the Golfie and riding down NY-NY. That’ll be interesting on an XC bike with your heart trying to rip out of your chest

Not very detailed but gives a good idea of were the route is.

They were out marking the bit round the top of GT on Saturday.

The trails in Yair are already route marked.

For those that know it:

  • Start to top of Inners
  • SUW to 3B
  • Down the Quarry trail
  • Through to Stoney
  • Down Stoney and across to Craig Hill
  • Down Craig Hill thru Buzzards
  • Down towards Yair House and then across the estate road to Peel and on the road to Elibank

Note, the back road from Peel towards Elibank will be closed.

3B summit would probably be a good place if folk want to see the riders, as probably the slowest they'll be going 🙂

The 3B / Yair / Elibank section is basically old skool Merida Marathon route.

Looks like a tough route. But I wouldn't expect anything else for the worlds.

I'd definitely need a couple of rest stops along the way and I'd be nowhere near their race pace.

Official timings are estimating fastest male finish time of 4hrs 9mins.

Rode a couple of sections on Saturday- Mud Funnel at Elibank has had some attention, strimmed a new route rather than dug anything so nice natural and with a few hidden rocks and roots in there. Switchback climb could be a good spectator spot too.

GT would be a good place to catch them twice- there's a bridge crossing at the exit of Ewok. Also a chance to see the new trails up close.

Lots of forest road before the GT loops so I'd expect a high pace.

There'll be some hard braking at the end of the fast quarry straight, that's a hard tight right at speed. Especially as it's very much one at a time down there.

What will be more interesting is just how much faster than the usual crowd of storm troopers on enduro sleds* they are.

*I'm not sure I qualify as a storm trooper. I think I'd fail the competency test.

Just had a look at Cameron Mason's Strava and he has been riding what looks like the route. He has been getting plenty of KOMs.

The Golfie bit is NY NY then middle repeat to the bottom. We rode mid and lower repeat at the end of our ride on saturday and  both said how rough that would be on 120mm and a seatpost rammed up yer jacksy .

Should be good though and It does make me wonder if this is the reason for the new end of NY NY.

Rapid!

Impressive what the new breed of XC/Marathon bikes can do.

That's pretty incredible, my arms are buggered after riding down NY NY once and not after doing 96km...

And very weird it is too 🙂 Massive scaffold bridge just sorta plonked on the road, trail that leads under it barely even exists (are they going to move it? Or is it going to be a last minute connect-the-dots job to take it down beside ewok? It seems like someone's been scratching in a better line where the woodwork on double X used to be... But why not just run it down ewok? Who knows)

I was up 3B a couple of days ago (miserable ride that I finished short because it was bleurch) definitely cover up as the ticks are out. I ended up with one under my watch strap and it could only have appeared from riding through bracken. So standing around may be a bit ticky.

On other news mrs100th has commandeered my kenevosl so I'm either taking the pace or gravel bike to try and chase her up the hill.

I ignore everything XC, or at least until now.

There's a road gap, and a 3 metre gap jump, ...

Developing mountian biking in Scotland and Wahoo have produced the following video which provides some insight into the course design. -

Guessing / hoping it'll be on BBC Sport website and maybe Red Button, they've been decent enough so far.
