[Closed] TV on wall, cables though to other side

Obviously don’t want to cut the power cable and refit the plug so wondering if there’s anything that could be used to tidy up the hole?

Err, why not? That would surely be the most obvious solution.

Why not replace the plug, 5 minute job and a much smaller hole? If you use the radiator pipe covers they'll need to be siliconed to the wall or they slip down the cables.

Is the cable hard wired into the TV? Ours can be unplugged at the TV end and is much smaller than a 3 pin plug

Nah - stupid. With a modern TV it would be possible to just remove one row of bricks and pass the TV through like a letter through a postbox.

With an elaborate system of mirrors there would be no need to drill any holes. Just fit an 96” tv in the dressing room and by the time you see it from your bed it’ll look like a 42”

But, back to the OP, in my wildest dreams I wouldn't have ever considered cutting a huge hole to pass a plug through, it simply wouldn't even by a conscious thought. Glad you have seen sense 🙂

That's just stupid.  The same effect could be more  easily achieved by pointing a CCTV camera at the 96" TV in the dressing room and showing that feed on a 42" wall mounted TV in the bedroom.

it has its roots in truth. Back in the early days of cinema people in GLasgow couldn’t build theatres fast enough to keep up with demand. So films were being shown in any building available

there was a cinema in Sauchiehall Street that was L shaped and half the audience were watching the movie through a mirror in the corner

I've knocked some of the wall down and going to build a stud wall. TV should fit through the gap nicely.
Plasterer lined up to finish off around the cable!

Could have put one of those small petrol inverter generators on a shelf under the tv and be completely independent of those awkward plugs in the other room

A lot of overthinking on this thread. The obvious solution is to turn the dressing room into the bedroom. Will also provide more storage space for clothes.

While your at it drill a six inch hole in the bedroom wall so you can see if you’ve left the light on in the dressing room.

Knock the hole BEHIND the TV ... buy some gap filler and plastering tape .. stick whatever you want through (ours has audio, RF/Sat x2, power etc. ) stick in a flush trendy plug outlet and junction box... fill hole with actual outlet removed to avoid getting filler on it .. use the filler and sand down and repaint.. stick on fancy new outlet.

A brushplate or a bullnose plate will do what you need, just fix to the wall with a couple of plugs/screws or walldogs.

Clearly this is a stupid idea.

There should be a 42" hole from the dressing room side and a 41" hole from the bedroom side - the 1" difference will cover the bezel around the screen.

Centering the 41" hole on the 42" hole would be even better.

will do fine or just put plugs/faceplate etc. all on the wall ... stick them all behind the TV so you can't see them anyway ...

you can get pretty much everything fits onto standard backboxes from Wifi/USB/HDMI ... and the brushplates all in tasteful finishes (and white)

Don’t forget the turntable for the tv so you can watch it while getting dressed.

Use some funky mirrored glass in front of the telly so you’ve got a useful bedroom mirror that doubles as a telly when it’s switched on 🙂

Or just buy a load of edgeless monitors and a multiplexor and you could have a whole wall of picture an save on the plastering 🙂

Another vote for brush plates.
Then when you decide you need a new TV next year or want to feed a cable through for something else then it's an easy job.
Mount it directly behind the TV and you'll never see it anyway. In fact, on that logic you could just cut a big hole through for the plug and leave it open as you'l not see it behind the TV

Hang on, don't all TV's have a figure-of-8 power lead, which is barely (well ~2x) bigger than the cable? In which case we're talking the difference between a ~8mm hole and a 15mm hole, either of which would be behind the TV and hidden once it's on the wall?

Poke a bit of 15mm plastic conduit through the wall? That way it protects the cable and stops it creating dust.

Nope. THat's certainly not been my experience

Some are three pin kettle leads, some are low voltage with  an adaptor, lots are hardwired directly into the TV's PSU

If the op cuts a 42" hole won't that be too big even allowing for the bezel? TV sizes are measured diagonally so he might be able to get away with a 40" hole depending upon bezel? Of course that is also dependant upon the op cutting the hole to the same aspect ratio of a modern WS tv. So either 16:9 or 1.78:1.
