[Closed] TV in cars? Why?

Ok, so fine for one's chauffeur to watch while you're dining, and fine for the back seats of one's Bentley to keep an eye on one's minions

But in a normal car? Why? Anyone here have TV and or video in their car?

(Slight aside, but I always have a chuckle when I think of a car I saw a while ago - a convertible, with TV screens on the back of the passenger seats!)

Porn isn't that distracting whilst traveling at 80 on the outside lane of the M6.

TVs in cars are all very "pimp my ride" in my opinion.

The day I spend so much time in my car that I need a TV.....Is the day I need to have a strong word with myself about the state of my life 🙁

reminds me of that spoof ad for a porsche cayenne (or something)

"when a range rover's just not expensive enough"

In follow on from that other thread, I really enjoy being in my (other) car to the point where I'd often just go for a drive to make me smile - but I'm not sure I'd get a TV in it for myself. However most front TVs are visible by the passenger, very handy for the other half on a 3-5 hour drive.

not TV but I have in-car DVD in the headrests of mine, so my two kids can watch a DVD while on long journeys. What's the difference to the same in a plane?

I've a PC and touch screen in my dash, even picks up wifi in McDonalds carpark. You may also find the complete Star Wars trilogy on Divx, for the kids of course. Am I going to hell?

To be honest, I don't know why people don't just get their stupid, useless, analogue eyeballs scooped out and have screens implanted in the holes instead. Why waste time away from the screen? duh.

The headrests have DVD screens in our Verso. We didn't spec them, car was 4ys old when we bought it. Kids have watched films once or twice on them.
Bit of a gimmick really. Apparently they were a £1000 option when the car was new...!!! FFS.

£1000 option my arse. About £200 in my Verso (I suppose depends on what trim level you go for initially)

And has been superb for my two, means we can happily consider trips onto the continent for example, we don't have to listen to incessant 'are we there yet' and can listen to our CD's too.

Win-win!

All these things are a balance.
I have driven to Spain, Austria and France on several occasions for holidays with the kids over the last 3 years.
I have a £150 kit from Ebuyer strapped to the back of the headrests. They provide a couple of hours of entertainment and distraction for the kids on what is a very long and tedious period of time cramped in the back seat of a car.
I always wonder why people get so high and mighty about these things.

i used to sit in the back of the car every month for the 3 hour drive to grannys and back. Always bored me.

Then after a few 8 hour coach journeys my boredom was cured! Either my brain has died (maybe TV isnt so brain dumming after all) or i've learnt to cope with it. Actualy quite look foreward to long journeys now, catch up on some sleep, read the paper, in roughly equal measure.

You obviously don't have kids, CFH! The in-car DVD is one of life's greatest inventions 🙂

In the back I can understand.

For the driver? I think it should be outright banned.

Yeah, sitting the kids in front of a tv is easier than entertaining/educating the little lifestyle accessories.

Facepainting at 70mph is always a bit tricky.

I leave that to the wife, I just drive - wearing my i-pod so I can't hear the screams. 😀

What you mean it had a big sunroof.

I don't see any stupidity with tv's in cars. 2 reasons for them - one a 'pimp my ride' stylee and two is to keep the kids quiet. To be honest with psp's and i-pods junior is quiet happy to amuse himself with those on long journeys. Both of which he can watch movies on.

It's not like we just put them in the car and drive it round while they watch the screens to avoid the need to entertain / inform. Although it has been considered at times 🙂

LOL @ surfer. Given the option, my two would far rather be riding their bikes or bouncing on the trampoline or digging in the sandpit, but it's a bugger getting the tyre marks off the rear upholstery.

Clearly you haven't tried a six hour car journey with kids...

But the DVD player is only used for long journeys - and they are of course made to improve themselves by only watching educational and life affirming DVDs

It's amazing what my offspring have learnt about marine biology thanks to young Robert, Patrick, and that rascally Plankton fellow.

i was under the impression that i was illegal to have a tv in the drivers field of vision.

I'm also of the opinion that sat-nav shouldn't be in a drivers field of vision

course, i could be wrong
