Why is it that (nearly) all the women fall off their snowboards but (nearly) all of the men stayed on?

...because, in some men, a decreased rate of evolution has left them with prehensile tails which aid balance.

Did that actually happen? If it did it's not sexist. If it didn't then it is.

The boobies make ladygirls more top heavy and therefore more prone to over-balancing?

Well, i only watched about half an hour of each and I don't remember seeing many men fall and I haven't seen a single clean women's run. Genuinely perplexed.

If its the wind that's fair enough but not being a snowboard aficionado i don't know if its normal or not!

3rd story on BBC Sport website, didn't really need a thread on here did it - other than to get the 'I'm not sexist but' thing in?

That’s funny because when I was watching it, I saw 4 men fall off in quick succession 😉

It's cos, as any fule nose, that the men do massiver and complexer tricks, which are easier to land than the little silly ones the girlies do.

The bbc said it was the wind. They called it off yesterday due to the head wind and went today. Inconsistent wind and big air events are a huge problem for anyone. The Olympic format doesn't give much time to wait for stable wind.

So the answer is that women are lighter and therefore more likely to suffer from wind.

For some balance, Buzzfeed ran this shocker of an article at the weekend

(POTENTIALLY NOT SAFE FOR WORK)

https://www.buzzfeed.com/juliegerstein/nobody-knows-how-to-feel-about-luge

I can only imagine what the response would've been if they'd ran a "best cameltoes of the women's luge"

😆

One of the smaller men also had more trouble with the wind.  But didn't it drop or change direction after the first run of men?

Women are generally smaller and lighter therefore more kite-like

See also not a consistent wind, gusty etc.

It clearly did need a thread because I dont care enough about snowboarding to find the bbc articles otherwise.

So the consensus is wimmin are more afflicted with wind than men.

Wind, much more for the women's event than the men's, simple as that. Jumps plus unpredictable winds makes for some tough conditions.

Fuller described the conditions in the slopestyle final as the "roughest" she had competed in, adding that it was like "riding into a wind tunnel".

"On the second run I got my speed right but once I was in the air it felt like I had a sail boat under my board," the 26-year-old said.

"The wind ripped me sideways and there was not a chance I was going to land."

Fuller also said it was a "tough question" whether the event should have gone ahead.

"At the end of the day it was the Olympic final and everyone wanted to ride," she said.

"If you were lucky with the wind there were calm windows but the majority was super inconsistent.

"I don't think it was a a true reflection of women's slopestyle which is a shame for our sport."

Not really a consensus there, the conditions would likely have messed up a men's event.

The Mens winner was actually an 8 stone boy, well 17 yr old.

I would suggest it's one of two things:

Either they spend too much time on their makeup and not enough practicing or, as I suspect, trying to control an ironing board strapped to your feet in a crosswind is quite hard.

Men fart and ladies do not.

The men get a gust of wind, and can let one rip to offset the wind.

As ladies do not fart they can not make in flight adjustments.

Don’t know.  I don’t watch women in sports.

Prefer watching men :X

It's because the men's perspiration makes them more slippy and aerodynamic, whereas the ladies' glow does not.

Remember that time Red Bull Rampage got called off halfway through because it was mentally windy? And half the riders who did run were just riding the lines and not doing any tricks? That, except this time they just went for it and fell off all the time.

Trying not to be sexist

Well don't then!

Also, seems like you didn't watch one of team GB's hopes crash out at the weekend (Jamie Nichols).

Nope, I don't think it's the windy conditions, it's more than likely a mental thing. I mean we know men are physically stronger than women, and I don't think it's such a great leap to suggest they're mentally stronger aswell.

We also know that women are better at multitasking, but the flip-side of that is they're worse at focusing their minds on one single task; see parallel parking for an example.

Men are also likely to remain cool, calm and collected in unpredictable situations, whereas women are usually overcome with panic.

It's gender inequality at the most basic level. I can't believe they get away with it at the Olympic Games TBH. I'm surprised no one has been campaigning on Twitter for more womyn-friendly snowboarding events.

Just got round to watching the highlights - all the conditions stuff was discussed and explained in great depth! Only 9out of 52 runs were clean, they said. It wouldn’t even be an event if that was normal. The height they go, to crash land from up there is stupidly dangerous.. I was grimacing watching that.

However, the gold medal run was such a thing of beauty, the style, the ease with which she appeared to pull the tricks... brilliant.

Just tuned in to see the olympics over breakfast: watched several minutes of high-quality high-tempo ice hockey.

Then spotted it was a women’s match.

I have no point, other than to observe the contrast with the OP.
