[#13535504]

I am amused by the creative names dreamt up by some tribute acts.  I've just seen an advert for a Pantera tribute act - "Pant Tearer" - and felt the need to share such genius with the good people of STW.

What pant-tearingly hilarious names have you lot seen in the wild?

No idea if these are actually true, but Bon Jordi from Newcastle upon Tyne, and By Jovi from somewhere posh....

I like the Beagles though.

They should just put The Shit in front of the original band name. Works for me

The Shit Thin Lizzy

The Shit Stone Roses

etc

Hmm, except Robbie Williams, people might think The Shit Robbie Williams is the real one.

I've seen a few in my time, including The Smyths, and The Joneses. The Joneses was a local pub event and in fact were very good, the singer was full on camp Morrissey with the baggy shirt and NH specs and gladioli, but the backing band weren't trying to be Marr, Rourke and Joyce, were just three talented musicians playing some great songs that I've only a small chance of seeing played live now and which deserve to be played regularly.

However, what I came to say was to not discount the 'not quite a full on tribute band' bands. Those that pay homage to but add something else. By all accounts Nic Cage ATM is a right laugh. Brass ATM too. There has to be a place for Dread Zeppelin somewhere. Hell, even Bjorn Again aren't supposed to be serious (saw them at a festival - I believe they're Australian but effect daft swedish accents throughout..the highlight was when 'now the girls have gone off to do another costume change Benny, do you think we should play one of the songs that the younger people would like?' 'Sure thing Bjorn! What about this one?' - at which they launch into the opening of Smells Like Teen Spirit and the crowd goes moshing.)

Bjorn Again are a great show, musically and "tongue in cheek"ness.

Iirc Steel Panther started as a covers/tribute band and then it all got out of hand.

Bjorn again are great live but the best I've seen is Elvana.... Elvis singing Nirvana songs and Elvis songs in a Nirvana style. Just brilliant fun

I think I saw Bjorn Again at Download one year.

I'm not certain on details, but I've definitely seen an ABBA tribute act at a metal festival.  Corey Taylor off of that Slipknot was on the same stage IIRC.  (but not at the same time)

a chap I know played bass in Slay Duggee, a

band of five dogs who transform kids' songs into hardcore metal. They have performed on BBC 6Music, Britain's Got Talent, and sold out shows across the UK.

They are fun as a one-off, but I wasn't inclined to go to see them a second time.

Well that was an entertaining 5 minutes on YouTube. Reminded me of the metal covers Frog Leap Studios used to put out.

I like the sound of Fallen Women...Fall covers by an all girl band with the additional fun being from vocals coming from the audience karaoke style.
