I have what I think is a trapped nerve in my right shoulder. It's very painful. I know go to the docs but the next available non-emergency appointment is in ten days.
Can anyone offer any tips on treatment? I've been taking painkillers but would any particular one do any better than another (say would NSAIDs be better than paracetamol)?

Yes. A good sports physio is worth the money. It may be referred pain from elsewhere, check the neck muscles etc.

Thanks - fairly sure its shoulder as pain radiates up into neck and down into forearm as well.

I shall make enquiries, thanks.

Are you at all unwell? That ( highly unlikely) could be cardiac pain.
Try to get a proper diagnosis before you attempt treatment.
For me, the NHS mostly provided pain relief (gabapentin- wonderful stuff), actual recovery was mostly from my sports physio- he was able to pinpoint where the actual issue was and give me some quick response treatments that I could use to reduce it immediately, and longer term exercises etc to help fix it. I think the NHS might have been able to do the same but it'd be slower.
As a very basic thing, does it help to elevate the arm? I found putting it straight up then bending at the elbow so my forearm rested on my head provided a lot of relief, as did lifting it up and to the side in what let's be clear was definitely not a nazi salute...

Thanks TJ, it's right side so very unlikely. Fine otherwise (or, at least as fine as an overweight 42 year old ever gets!)

It helps to take the weight off - if I put my arm into a sling position that alleviates it a bit, but it's more the constant nagging pain with any movement - even slightly moving my head when typing sets a twinge off.

He's right, it's left arm pain, or, more unusually, right shoulder. If the pain is radiating to your jaw area, might be worth a check.
That doesn't sound like cardiac with a bit more detail 🙂
I had the very same problem and same symptoms last week. Had an appointment with a physio over the phone which was arranged through my local GP. They sent me a link for a exercise called Cx Median Gliders. You can find examples on youtube of these exercises. I'm starting to feel the benefit of them after a week. Might be worth a go. Oh and they said not to do the exercises within 2 hours of getting out of bed. No danger of me doing that!

I mean really elevating, getting the hand above head height. (I'm not going to offer any sort of treatment advice but this was something my GP used for diagnostic too). Changes how the nerves are all passing through the crowded space in the shoulders
