Do they exist?

I appreciate that water can get in through the big hole at the top but I tried some Climashield Speedcross and they were like a sponge on wet grass

Also anything with a sole that copes with wet rock?

I think most trail shoes are vented to quickly and easily let the water drain out. I just accept wet feet as being part of the experience.....

I'm a fan of inov8 roclites for anything involving rock, pretty good on grass, etc. too.

Too warm most of the time for me, and that's including running Scottish Mountains in winter. I prefer to buy half a size up and insulate with either thick socks, or a thin liner and a waterproof sock.

+1 to the Inov8 stuff I've tried. Seems to work.

Karrimor trail shoes from sports direct (as per the august / September edition of trail running magazine)

Karrimor tempo trail £24

You won't mind so much when you lose one in a quagmire, or wading knee deep through puddles as per my mrs on this past weekends Antonine trail run....

+1 for Inov8 Roclites. I've got the 295 variant and they don't soak up anything and grip well.

I'd also stay away from waterproof trail shoes as once the water gets in, it can't get out. I've found that no matter how wet my feet get, they never get cold as they are doing a lot of work. Trapping the water in would just lead to uncomfortable squelching and possibly smelly shoes and blisters.

Adidas Kanadia Goretex here, love em in the woods, not sure about rocks. My feet may get slowly wet but it's gradual rather than first puddle...

Innov8 mudrock 290's for me but I'm not much of a runner.

They grip very well on mud, aren't waterproof but they drain/dry fast so it's not a problem.

Salomon Speedcross 3 CS - warm, comfy and very grippy
The idea being the CS membrane doesn't stop the water getting in but allows it to stay there and warm up keeping the foot warm.

waterproof trainers is pointless and uneeded. something like the x talon doesnt absorb water that much and drains well. speedcross 3 whilst grippy are heavier when wet.
best to get some breathable grippy trainers, anything waterproof will make your feet swet when runing anyway and you will get sweaty feet.. whats wrong with wet feet?

I tried Speedcross CS and hated them - lethal on wet rock and not especially waterproof

Waterproof is not a quality worth perusing in a trail or fell shoe, in my experience.

I have a load of inov8 shoes and x-talon are the best but soft compound so they will grip on rock, they are the choice of most top fell runners at the moment.

295 roclite are also great, more hard wearing and comfortable but not as grippy.

I do my training in roclite and race in xtallons

Hope that helps
