The first was a rather angry European funnel web (Macrothele calpeiana).

I'm guessing they're the fun ones that live in the wall in my MiL's garden in Extremadura, you poke a little stick in the end of the funnel and watch them jump out to attack. Good to know what it's called!

I've got a wooden turtle, and a usb cup heater that never gets used. Need more toys, really.

An RC helicopter and a Singletrack mug and calendar. The bloke next to me has a bottle of Dettol spray, which probably tells you how messy my desk is.

then yes. They are mainly nocturnal but would bite if you stick you finger in, though they can live as far as 2 metres underground. They are called La Araña Negra de los Alcornocales in Spanish.
(I had a brood of 101 slings earlier this year 😀 )

What do Petzl think about that GriGri copy, there?

It has been around a few years and has a couple of advantages supposedly, so going to play with it and see. Better made for a start it seems.

I have a Flat Eric soft toy on my dashboard...Once stopped at a zebra crossing, and the guy decided not to cross but come to my window to try and buy him...in heavy traffic! normally just raises a smile from adults or pointed fingers from kids 🙂

I have no toys on my desk. (1) the desk isn't large enough and (2) I always like to be in a position to pack and leave quickly (hence no family photos, etc.).

Yes, I am that paranoid.

Some of you are paid far, far too much and have far, far too tidy desks!

I just have my paper aeroplane page a day calendar, an Ipod Touch and a small badge bearing the legend "W*****" on it to keep me humble.

Just found my indoor RC helicopter under an A1 map of the internet! Off to charge it up before a quick spin round the office.
