I started the thread because they are brilliantly bonkers.

I was watching the Sophie Ellis-Bextor "lockdown" videos last year too. Also unexpectedly bonkers 🙂

She is great, as a local press person I was deputised to attend a BBQ clinic run by Weber and she was the bait to draw us in.
She was funny and friendly to everyone.

Happy Birthday George if that's your name?
You have made it to a greater age than many of my family

The one they did for VED was Toyah's best one - love her singing on it. Nice dress and no unnecessary bolt-on-boobs / nippleage.

She canny sing that song like Joan but they both look like their enjoying themselves and always up for a laugh
When I read folk slagging off it reminds me of James blunt getting a hard time over his music as he was relaxing in the sunshine with bikini clad ladies

What grinds my gears about T and F at Home is the rank hypocrisy of Fripp happily banging out covers of other people's work whilst if anyone dares to post a youtube vid containing even a bar of King Crimson material it gets blocked. I was really hoping karma would kick in and Gun's n Roses who are also famous blockers would block T and F's cover of Welcome to the Jungle

Didn't know about that, just assumed it was youtube blocking it via their AI.
Makes you wonder how come it does pick on T&Fs versions. Could be her singing of course...

EDIT: And on a quick trip to see if I could find any examples of unlicensed KC covers I found this bonkersness. Presumably all copyright acknowleged and paid for.

Here's a video by Rick Beato who has a great YouTube music channel on how one of his videos was blocked because it included 9 secs of 21st Century Schizoid Man. Its a bit long winded because its a clip from one of his live streams (start listening at 1:00). He explains that although the YouTube algorithms may identify copyrighted content and demonetize the video (he doesn't mind demonetisation BTW) its up to the artist and the artist's management to instruct that the video should be blocked. He actually rang up KC's management company but they refused him a comment.

Well that was a fun watch.
Do we know if the T&F videos have been demonetised?

On these lines check out Rhett Shull totally annoyed over his video being blocked because he used his own music.
🙂

I doubt very much if T and F are bothered whether their vids are demonetised as they seem to be using them to flog their personalised messages. They presumably would be bothered if they were blocked. I don't believe for a second Fripp is the lovable eccentric gnome he seems to be portraying himself as these days.

Beato makes the point that youtubers like him exposing new generations to classic songs actually benefits the artists. For example if Fleetwood Mac and Phil Collins had been blockers then Dreams and In the Air Tonight would't have been hits again this year.

I'd like Toyah to wear a really nice jumper in the next video. If Fripp wore a matching one ever better

Flower Travellin Band were endlessly cooler than KC. Fact. But Fripp is a legend. Fave Fripp collab = FFWD - ‘FFWD’ (Orb and Fripp)

Seeing those later vids above, I wouldn’t be overly surprised if the couple weren’t ‘flashing main beam’ in the car-park up Birdlip Hill after dark. (Happened to me once, but I was just taking a twilight walk. I wheelspan out of that place 😂)

Sincerely,

Anecdote Andy

She's clearly missing the top brick off her chimney, but sounds like they suit each other perfectly.

(I don't do demented child jump outs to my wife. I prefer silently entering the room behind her and then just waiting for her to turn around. I have a lot of patience for this)

of course he isn’t. In that Guardian article Wilcox describes how he feared he was being mocked and was furious about it

It is these days, they used to live near Salisbury, in Cecil Beaton the photographer’s old house.

Update:

Clearly doesn't care anymore judging by this weeks edition where she has just painted them blue and is jumping about in the kitchen topless.

Marvelous.

Leaving aside the subject of Toyah & her boobs, her musical timing is terrible in these videos. I'd have thought it would be better, given that's what she did.

It's almost as if they don't realise that lockdown is being slowly lifted. For the rest of us that's probably a good thing. We're safer if they are indoors.

Sadly, I’m in the minority that think the latest Metallica vid is pretty sad.
She is after attention, and knows full well that she is almost exposing her fake boobs.
She is nearly 60, maybe older? There is no way they are natural.
If this was in another thread it’d be slammed as almost demeaning of women, and she was maybe only doing it as that is what men require her to do.
Sorry, she looks great, but it isnt right.

Deary me! I have a very good idea that Toyah’s response to that rather narrow-minded comment would be a pretty robust one. Actually, stet that, she’d probably just piss herself laughing, she’s been in the music and theatre business since she was little more than a child, and just doesn’t give a shit what people think. And so what if she’s had some enhancements done to her boobs - it’s nothing that a million other women haven’t had done, and is none of your business. Honestly that could be a Daily Mail columnist quote.

While I was searching for Toyah concert clips on YouTbue I came across Toyah & Fripp at home which makes me laugh especially with her showing off her boobs. I thought it's wonderful, funny and down to earth. But behind those happy exterior with Fripp there seem to be something sad or missing because she cannot bear child.

I recall in the early 80s when I saw Toyah on TOTP video of her singing for the first time, I didn't know what to make of her songs really. Good or bad I didn't know but it was definitely fun looking at her bouncing around with big doll like hairdo and her energetic on stage performance. In those days I could only understand a few words in the lyric while the rest was difficult even to know what she was singing as I could hardly speak the language.

This is the video ... the bouncing hairdo ... the hairdo ... her futuristic dress ... that's so funny (for people like me in the part of the world we find that very funny). If I meet her I would like to know how the hell did she think of a hairdo like that. 😂

She's just giving her viewers what they seem to want which it appears is not her's and Blocking Bob's unique re-interpretations of classic songs but the opportunity to ogle her surgically enhanced bust. Just look at the number of views for each video on her channel. Apart from the Smells Like Teen Spirit vid all the vids with the highest number of views are those where she gets them out. Mind you I don't think she's worried about credibility as she never really had any.

I think she is brilliant as for the songs they are good but nobody comes close to Karen Carpenter.

I'm surprised. Only this morning there was a report about teenage girls buying an unlicensed drug that was advertised as giving them a 'hour glass figure'. Of course, it didnt, it just made them fat. But they are having pressure from , mainly, internet sources, saying the perfect body is big on top and bottom, with a thin middle.
Is that really what we should be promoting, or, more importantly, not condemning? Show your tits, and you get attention. Get a huge arse, and you'll look great?
It's wrong.

I started this thread and I do think they are still delightful and bonkers but I've started finding it uncomfortable to watch. Haven't see one for ages and I do wonder where they are progressing with this.
But nobody seems to die and they seem to be having fun so crack on. Itwould help if Fripp actually sounded better. For a guitarist I used to 'worship' he does seem a bit hit and miss in this.

Yeah, I had caught on to this earlier when they were doing some of the bonkers stuff in the garden (Fripp in a tutu). It's got a bit samey since. Still, they look like they're enjoying themselves and bringing a few laughs, so crack on.

I'll admit I've stopped watching, seemed to be more about the display than the fun and music and just made me feel, well yes, uncomfortable is the right word.
Her choice, her body, but not something I really want the kids to find in the YouTube history.

Her voice certainly has 😬

Watched the latest and was conflicted at this rigid, forced, surgically-assisted self-conscious/clickbaiting tribute to both Hawkwind and Stacia.

Like much of today, it just ain’t natural. ymmv. I’m old and beyond jaded. At least I’m conflicted and not averse to fun...just yet 😎

How can anyone sing ‘Firestarter’ out of tune? Is what I’ve been thinking. Seriously that must be an accomplishment?
