Tour last stage in Paris - worth going and any tips?
So this year I find my alps trip coinciding with the end of the tour for once. Ferry is Saturday night of the 23rd.
I’m in a camper, so idea would be park up somewhere secure outside of Paris (2 bikes on the back) and get a train in and go watch.
Is this a bit of a crazy idea? Seems like too good an opportunity to miss but well aware it might be hard work. Any tips if so?
Will I have to be there at 6am to get a spot with any kind of a view, bearing in mind I’m on my own then I’m going to lose it when going to the loo etc.
Cheers for any pointers!
Totally worth it. The craziest bit will probably be finding secure parking with 2 bikes on the back near Paris.
Champs is always rammed with people. So you can get there early and have a miserable afternoon if you want. Metro stations along there tend to close.
I suggest (although listen to others) find a spot at the other end of the circuit and/or with sight of a big screen.
When is the ferry?
Caravan is due to hit the circuit at 4.15 (I love it, others have taste) and the race will be 6 - 7.45 ish.
I've been a couple of times
Easy to watch and mostly friendly crowds
Eat before you go into the scrum as it will be cheaper
You might be pushing it for the ferry...
Ferry is something like 10pm sat night, so I usually hit Paris area and jump in an aire for a few hours Kip before the long haul down to the alps. This obviously all depends on me making the crossing… it’s been moved once and apparently there are only 3 sailings that night now - so I’m not going to book anything!
Rue du Rivoli seems the best bet doing some online research, cba with jostling for postition on the champs, I’d rather get a bit closer to the action further out. I just don’t want to waste a day going in half cocked and not seeing any of the action!
