As title.

Looking for a (very) tough camera for daughter's birthday. It'll be her first proper camera and stop her begging for my DSLR when we're out n about. It WILL get dropped hence the need for shock-proofness.

Thought some relevance asking on a biking forum 'cos we're all tough 😆

My old Nikon D70 has been in my backpack on off road rides and skiing, having taken a fair few tumbles as well, and still going strong. Just one little chip on the flash housing after all these years. 😀

Perhaps not practical though, and while it takes tumbles in backpacks, not sure how well it would survive dropped on hard surfaces.

Yep, it's the drop onto hard surfaces I'm most worried about.

Should say she's only turning 5 so perhaps not quite ready for full SLR. But equally we're looking for a 'proper' compact camera rather than a kiddie one, if you know what I mean.

I have a Panasonic Lumix, can't remember the exact model number, it's a 'ruggedizised' compact camera. Been dropped loads had it out with me whilst swimming, surfing, biking etc. Takes decent pics as well has all the scene settings including a 3d option.

Olympus TG series. We use them on the ship, get stuffed in all sorts of objectionable places, dropped, covered in oily crap from filthy gloves, rained on, sworn at,...still work well.

Those Olympus look tough indeed. TBH it’s what I should have for biking myself (Canon EOS M at the moment).

But maybe a bit rich for a 5yr old. Yeah yeah it’s only the cost of a posh SRAM cassette but still...

Fujifilm xp90 or 120 look reasonable but any real world users here?

Panasonic Lumix FT30 is not bad, about £100.
