Any experience of really special preserves, other than general supermarket-offerings, that can be ordered on-line?

I'm also in the market for some nice chutneys, similar critera, but not bothered if these are readily available in supermaket, as this wil be a present for somenoe just starting their chutney journey.

Thanks 🙂

I watched one of those "daytime Dom" programmes where the claims to use fresh, locally sourced fruit on some of the posh jams were complete lies! £5 for a jar of jam the same as Robinsons. 😆

So, buyer beware (or go to Lidls)

Homemade is the only way if you want anything other than generic crap, no matter how much you pay or how s****y the label!

My wife works for them but I can thoroughly recommend My secret Kitchen's Chilli jam.

These are the go-to guys for super chutneys, jams and curds. No e-commerce site as such, as with small batch production and local availability of ingredients, it would be an enormous faff, so you may have to visit one of their pop-ups, as I believe the cool kids call them.

Quality is all about buying good ingredients and treating them properly. At large scale manufacturers they buy purees and cheap ingredients and then boil them in huge vats. At a small scale manufacturer it is much more like what you would do at home - Good quality fruit, stirred by hand in small batches and not boiled to death.
Look for statements on the label saying "handmade" "made by hand" "small batches" etc.and you won't go far wrong.
For good quality, traditional chutneys I really recommend Tracklements www.tracklements.co.uk you can buy on line or from good quality independent stores such as your local butcher or deli and also from Waitrose.
For good jam try Roots & Wings, Duchy from Waitrose, Highgrove or Daylesford for organics or for the best try Fortnum & Mason who have an on-line store as well as concessions in several department stores and offer every flavour you can think of!

Bit of a sweeping statement that.

I know a few local delis that do some bloody good stuff, including one particular chef (more like a professor of food) that creates loads of jams/chutneys for this place: http://www.thejollyfarmersreigate.co.uk/

They've been meaning to go online but haven't yet got round to it. Shopping online is one thing, getting to know your local providers is another.

I've been searching for the perfect pickle since the demise of Pan-Yan. Have bought many 'posh' ones including those from independent deli's and without fail they all disappoint.

Help me please! Or do I need to resort to making my own? 😯

Edit: I recommend Duchy Originals for jams and marmalade.

Hilarious, Midlife. 🙂

Some great suggestions thank you; will look into them all tonight, especially that trackelements link which at first glance looks just the ticket for the chutney lover. Stop s****ing at the back.
