So for the second time this month, Orange(The phone people) took just short of £600 from my already overdrawn account in some sort of horrendous mistake......again.
I canceled it at my bank, and then rang Orange to try to sort it out their end.

By the by, after getting through the Indian section of my long call and being transferred to billing, I end up getting into an arguement with the bloke because he tells me that I have gone over my data allowance for this month, incurred some charges, and that has been what has triggered the mix up.

"Gone over my data allowance?" I said....
"Yes" he said...
"But when I arranged this contract 18 months ago I was told I had 'Unlimited' internet"
"Yes" he said, "you do have unlimited internet, but all our 3 levels of unlimited internet tarriffs.....have limits..yours is 500mb per month"

What followed was a heated debate on the exact meaning of the word 'Unlimited' to which he insisted that Orange has a version of Unlimited which contains differing..... limits, and that this was perfectly acceptable.

I give up....nothing I can do.
Note to self, always read the small print...always beware of mobile phone providers.

"you do have unlimited internet, but all our 3 levels of unlimited internet tarriffs.....have limits"

there is something wrong with that logic

write into one of the sunday broadsheets with the consumer law departments........ you know the ones that do the hardhitting on your behalf.

ps 02 throttle back your connection when you go over your 500mb.

also you should know what your bill is - it is paid a month in arreers - ie your 600 quid bill should have been sent out to you a month ago for your to contest then (or stop the DD at your end till they sort their shit out.... they will fix it if they dont have their money !)

3 actually do have no limit.

This is indeed true and the reason I have three, I went through everyone else asking about their unlimited contracts, which are, as you've found out, limited.
I think you're just going to have to suck it up. 😐

And, to be fair to Orange, they were pretty clear about the limits - I remember them as 500MB for 3G and 500MB for public wifi. Was clear in the adverts.

I would imagine it's pushing the trading standards to claim unlimited when it's limited that severely.

500MB for public wifi

WTF?
Had absolutely no idea that I may be limited when on any kind of wifi!!!
I really DO need to revisit those terms and conditions.

I've been with Orange since the year dot, so my contract is around £20 for a decent tariff (I thought) and a smartphone so I alwys thought I'd struggle to get a decent deal from someone else.

Upgrade time soon, maybe I need to do some shopping around.... 😕

All the gear, no wonder I can't get 3 internet half the time. You've got it all.

Tmob calls the limits "fair usage" or something similar..
Even when I go over the limit I still have access.. Just can watch YouTube and similar stuff.. Can still check emails, Facebook etc..
Do they not send you a text when you're near and at your limit?? £600 seems a bit steep- you got one of those Swarovski phones or something??

No they don't, but I just installed 3G Watchdog from the Market so hopefully that'll help.
£600 was some sort of mistake, me going over the limit I didn't know I had wasn't it would seem.

Its an HTC Desire HD...hopelessly out of date these days... 🙂

kayak - Orange provide access to some normally chargeable WiFi hotspots, like BT Openzone. They have a limit for those, not your wifi at home.

No, not at home I know, but I thought you mean't even the wifi of a hotel I might stay in who give out the code for instance....
I'm assuming you just mean the ones you'd otherwise pay for on the spot..

BT Openzone/Fon: can anyone make those work? Even when I'm connected, I can never get any Internet access.
Useless. O2 used to use The Cloud, which was excellent, but have dropped it for BT, and I'm really annoyed about not being able to use those six million free wifi hotspots.
