I think Molgrips is carrying weight regardless of the distance.

Yeah, I know, there's a reason I don't do it very often. I've got no interest in long distances.

This week I'm away for work and I've got no bike for various reasons (I normally do) but given the weather and my mood I really fancied a good old ramble through the woods. They are two miles from my hotel, with streetlights, so I ran around until it got dark and came home. Lots of walking, stopping to look at stuff, and a 10 minunte walk along with a chap called Alastair who was exercising his bad knee with a 2 mile walk.

Also enjoyed running down the tight twisty biking singletrack, which is fairly amusing especially on the big zigzags, it feels silly going in big half circles ๐Ÿ™‚ the steep stuff was fun though.

Normally do more fast intervals.

well if u want to lose weight run in some non breathable waterproofs and a hat, also try and keep a constant fairly fast pace, be harsh on yourself u say you did 9 miles? if you are really really doing your best, was you sick when you finished? this happend to me when i first started putting my all into running. the main thing i found was relaxing my breathing. hold in in for a cecond or two then let it out. your lungs need some time to take the oxygen out of the air.... you may already be doing all this.. but ........

Enter and actually do some races now!

Go on, you've got the groundwork, you know you wanna, and when you've raced, it makes you different to those who don't...

I wasn't doing my best, it was just a ramble that was (a bit) quicker than a walk. Not a training run.

I don't think I'll enter a race, I've got no interesting distance running whatsoever. It'd be murder, and I'd be rubbish! I am so not a distance runner.

I am so not a distance runner.

...yet.

I hated road running, despite running marathons when I was 15 and when it was easy. Look up some short fell races and fill yer boots. You wouldn't come last and you'll have a good time.

You ran 9 miles and you've no interest in long distances?

Probably just as well, otherwise we'd be picking you up from Inverness.

Nah, I don't think I'll ever be. I've put a lot of effort in already and I'm worse than some people on here who've just taken it up. No matter what I do I'll never be all that good, and I don't really care enough to put that much effort in. If I'm going to do tons of training I'd rather it was in something I particularly enjoy ๐Ÿ™‚

I'm only doing it because I want to be reasonably competent and be able to enjoy a run. And perhaps to get me some triathlons or adventure races.

Fell racing tho - maybe.. just maybe. If it was something extreme, like a race up Tryfan or something ๐Ÿ™‚

You ran 9 miles and you've no interest in long distances?

9 miles isn't a long way!

Ohhhh I ran 5.2 miles last night. Had to walk little bits but ran til my legs went wobbly then dropped to a fast walk for a few minutes. Quite impressed with myself, I've never ever run proper and certainly not run anywhere for a good two years.

Simple solution: run topless

Don't think us girls could get away with that!

So, you got sore nipples from walking 9 miles? You'll definitely need some tape/vaseline for when you run that distance.

I only once wore a white top for half marathons, a finishing photo with two big watered down blood patches over your nipples just isn't right.

do men not bleed from their nipples each month anyway? i was told it was the male version of the period? every 28 days, regular like clockwork... never missed no matter how often i forget the pill.

I use nipple weights. Solves the whole bleeding nipples and need to carry extra weight in one easy to use device.

I covered 9 miles in 1.5 hours, so clearly not that much walking!

9 miles isn't a long way!

Anything above 800M gets referred to as 'endurance distance' on the telly, so it must be.

Sorry, it was the bit where you said you walked most of it that led me to that conclusion. Apologies.

I said I did lots of walking, I didn't say I walked most of it. Lots of walking is a relative term of course.

If you are wanting to lose weight then make sure that you don't run too fast - you need to keep your heartrate down in the fat burning zone, which isn't very high.

I am a lazy runner and can drop weight pretty easily running, whereas cycling does naff all - road cycled for about 10 hours on Saturday, didn't lose any weight ๐Ÿ™

I don't enjoy running, but try doing intervals to see if you enjoy that (not for weight loss though).

I jog 100 paces, then sprint 50, then gasp a bit, then repeat. After a few days I am sprinting faster, and it is almost a novelty running with long stride length, etc.

That's the old skool.

The new skool is HIIT for weight loss.

and what rate is your weight loss?

the advantage of the low heartrate is the low intensity bit, which is good if you don't enjoy running...

I covered 9 miles in 1.5 hours

so some walking/stopping - you surely don't run at 10 minutes a mile?

Is my rate of weight loss indicitive of the efficacy of HIIT? Given that I don't train regularly and struggle to eat well? Read some studies, don't just ask me, I didn't invent the idea in the bath one evening!

No, not really. Running slowly is boring, running fast is much more fun to me. Even if it is only for 30 seconds ๐Ÿ™‚ I can run at about 7 and a bit mins per mile for 5k,

so some walking/stopping - you surely don't run at 10 minutes a mile?

Read the post. Lots of walking, admiring the view, and a good 10 mins spent chatting to a random stranger whilst walking.

FWIW 7m/m is fast for me, 8.30 is pretty slow.

That sounds like me on a good day when running with the dogs... Stopping every five minutes so that they can wee, poo or sniff. I'm not that keen on running with them, but they do make me run faster (when they run!).

Now, if only I could get rid of this bloody stitch.
