Started off doing good works as an MSP. got exposed by (IIRC) the news of the screws as a serial shagger, sued them for libel and won then prosecuted for perjury which is now near the end of the case. Most of the charges dropped, blames it all on persecution.
Some of the papers allegations against him are admitted lies.
Its a most unholy mess.

His summing up speech and the attendant crocodile tears are a preposterous last-ditch attempt to sway the jury. I do hope the prosecution have made a sound case against him and the jury have the intelligence to separate the cold, hard fact from the grotesque personalities on all sides.

I work with a guy that stayed in the same area as Tommy Sheridan years ago. They used to get on a bus to go to the football or something, he's get waved off by his girlfriend, 200 yards down the road and he'd be getting fired into some other lassie on the bus.
The man is an (insert word to get banned from site) He's a blot on Scotland who tries to appeal the working classes from his luxury Glasgow apartment. It was no surprise to hear that his summing up took 5 hours, he loves the sound of his own voice.

Perjury is the alleged offence. He lied in court and profited to the tune of £200,000 by that lying. Allegedly.

When you think that someone like the german chancellor Kohl walked away from court having more or less admitted to having taken millions in bribes from top german companies, I really do think we get our knickers in a twist about the "morality" of our public figures in this country.We will end up with the bland, decent, moral, but ultimately useless politicians we deserve if we carry on allowing our media to rip apart the private lives of those who govern in our interests.
