Toilet seat broken, just put a new one on, easy right?

Wrong! 😔 The distance between the fixing holes on the pan in much wider than anything I can find online.  The holes (hinge width is the proper term) are 270mm apart.

I'm hoping someone here has had the same quandary and found a solution. What you got?

Considering it’s the most random question ever asked, I also had this recently. A visit to B&Q resulted in getting one where you could adjust the width of the hinges through a slotted set up

When I type "Toilet seat 270mm centres" into Google, it comes up with some products - are none of these any good?

EDIT: Or did you just mean one that wasn't eye-wateringly expensive, because you have a Starck pan?

@binners , don't suppose you remember the name of the B&Q jobbie do you?

Most are adjustable with offset bolt holes on the fixings

@james-rennie - I can't remember off the top of my head, I'm afraid, but it was nothing fancy. Just one of their bog standard range. No pun intended 😀

I think they tape the lids down now to stop that sort of thing.

Take photos, note brand, take measurements and get yourself to the local plumbers merchants for assistance.

In seriousness it is, ahem, a pain in the arse. You'd think there'd be some sort of standard.

I had a right mare of a time when ours broke, it's kinda square / D-shaped and shorter front-to-back than most. I found one on the entire Internet that was the correct size.

Presumably the extra width gives extra stiffness, better handling, and better clearance?

Makes the trails come alive and lets you do big skids.

When we got our bathroon done I bought a spare at the time as it wasn't a standard shape.  It is now sitting in the attic. By the time it is required I'll probably forget it's there.

There’s also the top loading and bottom loading standard to consider! Most modern pans have two blank holes and the seats come with expanding plugs that fit in a bit like rawlplugs. Traditional pans have holes all the way through and have nuts and washers on the bottom.

I bought one from Screwfix that also had a special arrangement on the hinge feet that you pressed on when positioning to glue down in addition to the screw/rawlplugs. Once fixed they can’t be moved - ask me how I know!

Has the manufacturer published endless graphs to prove a change in ramping up, instant centre and anti-squat?
