Could the police not arrest him for [s]just being a nob[/s] causing a disturbance or something?

I'm sure whichever female friend he's borrowed the car from will be a tad annoyed if they don't get it back.

"Drinkers from the Sun on the Hill have come over the road, they're singing to the car, police attempting to move them on.

He's in for a lively night, I reckon.

Matthew Sanders, 34, from Macclesfield, Cheshire, said he had spent £270 to get his car on the road and could not afford the costs if it was impounded.

Well here's a thought, why not NOT park in a disabled bay you selfish dick.

But I have to agree that why not just let him have the car back, he's got a fine to pay already - who would want all the impound costs?

And 'Police' in presence - stop wasting time and money; either arrest him or tell the tow truck driver to give him back his car.

Thing is though, he does sound like he's in the right (ish).

Yes, he's got to pay the fine which he's done - according to him.

However, it appears the council are wrong to have tried to impound his car.....

br how will that help. he got a ticket, time pasted before the tow truck came so he was not there for a quick 5 min we need to see the timeline. so let him off then you will have to do it for everyone. if you cannot pay the fine don't commit the crime. hes a knob and now he is going to pay, he may also find himself getting costs from the towing company for the time the truck is held up.

The Eye of the Tigra
By gazuky on December 23, 2014
Rising up, on the back of the truck
Parked illegally, took my chances
Went the distance now I’m locked in my car
Just a man and a bottle full of wee

I’ve travelled far – from Macclesfield
Parked my car where I wanted
Now I’ve realised I’ve made a mistake
So I’m going to sit here like a child

I’m up high in my Tigra in the dead of the night
Risin’ up on the back of a low-loader
And if they don’t back down I’ll be here all night
And I’ll be watching you all from up high – in my Tigra

Face to face, out in the street
Needing the loo, stayin’ hungry
They stack the odds, still I sit in my car
Even though my battery’s no longer live

I’m up high in my Tigra in the dead of the night
Risin’ up on the back of a low-loader
And if they don’t back down I’ll be here all night
And I’ll be watching you all from up high – in my Tigra

This is laughable.

If he's right & that's IF..

There's lot of you being idiots.

According to him his car should only have been towed if the car had been there in excess of 8 hours, according to him it was less than 15 minutes.

The council are the ones being out of line, although he should never have parked in the bay in the first place & deserves to be penalised for that.

He doesn't deserve to have his car impounded as according to the regs the council had no right to do it!.

But, hey don't let the facts (alleged) get in the way of a good rant.

DISCLAIMER: If he proves to be wrong I'll be the first to light the fire!

I've not seen anywhere yet that claims he's paid it.

His words I heard on R5 about 10 minutes ago.

They just interviewed this guy on the radio, tow truck people have gone home for the night and he's going to it there all night apparently,he's clearly a tit for parking in the disabled bay and its good he got caught /fined,but why do they take the car away? cant he just pay the fine and be on his way(looking like a complete tit),seems petty.

Lets just go over, drag him from the car, break both his legs, and let him off the whole thing, what with him being disabled now and everything. Sounds like a fair course of action to me!

my personal feelings are that if you park in a disabled bay you should be disabled when you leave.

If he isnt then break his legs.

A policeman was filmed attempting to pass the driver a copy of the legislation allowing councils to remove illegally parked cars, but Mr Sanders apparently refused to take it, according to the officer.

To be fair, I can't imagine the photographer/editor chose a photo that would be in danger of him looking reasoned.

"Can you just poke your head out of a slightly open window as if you are being trapped by the council?"

There'll be a point at about 2am tonight when he's trying to get to sleep when he's going to bitterly regret not getting a nice sensible estate and following his grandad's advice and having a blanket in the back and a flask of hot lemon.

On the bham newspapers website his car has just been realeased from the tow truck.

I once reported someone who fraudulently uses a disabled badge. I was informed that they couldn't do anything as he may have a disability that is not apparent. " Such as" I asked. "He might be blind " was the answer. At that point I gave up.

According to a mate,

Seems he's the founder of a "Beat the Bailiffs and Banks" civil liberties bloke, so basically he's done it at Christmas in a busy town to be a knob.

Second item on that website is 'how to fraudulently avoid paying your TV licence.'

Parked there. Penalty issued
Recovery attends to free the space for someone who needs it
He attends to move his car to free the space for someone who needs it
So, let's free the space (and the single yellow line) for someone who needs it rather than turn the whole thing into a seven hour time and money-waster
Pursue the penalty / recovery callout fee, etc later. It's not like there isn't any evidence

I guess the BBC report has been updated, seems he genuinely believed (he says) the 8hr thing, kind of admire his resolve.

But he parks in disabled spaces so is a knob.

Neither, I was just curious as to whether in response to a car being parked in a disabled space where, "...this driver's actions have taken a much-needed space out of action for disabled visitors to the city for an entire morning" they'd parked a recovery truck in a disabled bay for nine hours.

At the exit barrier on a car park I used to use, instructions to open the barrier were written in print and braille.
Which explains a lot about some of the standard of driving round here

Do you think they had a choice?

Do you think they didn't? They demonstrably had a choice, otherwise they wouldn't have given in and let him back down again.

Doesn't really answer my question, anyway. If the bay is important enough to fine him £75 for 15 minutes, it's surely important enough not to leave a tow truck there for nine hours. Assuming that's what they did, anyway.

The only justification for towing away a vehicle is to remove it from a place where it's causing an obstruction. If the driver's turned up, he can do that fairly readily. So steadfastly refusing to allow him to do so for nine hours is just spiteful and counter-productive.

That said, from everything I've read he does seem to be a throbber who was doing it specifically to antagonise them so I've little sympathy for him. It just seems that the council have played into his hands by giving him publicity, and defeated the whole purpose of the exercise if they've been sat there in the parking bay they're supposed to be enforcing. When do we hear from poor Mr Smith who had to walk a mile with his bad feet because there were no free disabled bays?

Wait up.

The tow truck was on a single yellow, so they did free up the space.

According to that link,

Mr O’Driscoll parked his Kia Sportage on a single yellow line outside his city centre flat
...
“I have parked on this road since I lived in the city centre and it has never been a problem before.”

So... he wasn't in a disabled bay in the first place, he was partially on single yellows? That's not what the original link said.
