I need a new timing belt chain for my van, Merecedes Vito 112 CDI 51 plate. How much on average would this cost in labour? I got quoted over £500 today and that wasn't including the belt! I also got told it would be around 13 hours in labour which I found to be ridiculous.

Que! Dunno but I've just had my Passat 130tdi done for £270 inc a water pump & a temperature sender & anti freeze, all in. Time allowed by VW for a timing belt is around 4 hrs, (but my pal can do it in 2+, he's done hundreds) £500 seems A RIP OFF!!!

Depends hugely on the vehicle. Mine only takes an hour & a half to do, yet I know Fiat 20v Coupe's cost over £1k to have done properly as it's an engine out job. Talk to some other garages for other estimates.

Again, depends on the vehicle.

Just had my Passat TDi done too my the local garage with all the ancillaries and water pump came to just shy of £300. VW dealer wanted £450. I know Renaults can be horrendously expensive, ~ £650.

I'd just do the normal thing and phone around a few places.
