I'm really, really pissed off. Advertised and sold a specialized big hit on eBay, twice. First guy asked me to finish the auction early and he would bring cash and pick the bike up, then never turned up. Ok, I'm new to this business so put that one down to inexperience. Readvertised it, let the auction run and got what I thought was a good price. Guy was supposed to come and pick the bike up tomorrow, and guess what? Just got a text to say he hasn't got the money, but can give me a ten pound deposit and 'defornatly' still wants the bike. I politely informed him no, defornatly. Why do people waste time like this?
The worlds full of knob hats, [s]some[/s]allot use ebay.
Two in a row is blooming annoying. Just get it back on ebay.
Can you give negative feedback to the second person? If so I would for being a time wasting ass hat.
you can't leave negative as a seller can you? Just report as a non-paying bidder?
Sod the guy with the £10 deposit. What was the second highest bidder, can you offer to him as a second chance offer?
Yeah, that'll be my next step. I didn't contact the first buyer, as I ended the auction early (oops), but the second one bid on it and won - when I replied to his text, I advised him in future to make sure he had the money to actually pay for stuff he was bidding on. I'm probably more pissed off as I've just ordered some vance and Hines pipes for my Harley. Ah we'll, that's what credit cards are for I suppose.
First guy asked me to finish the auction early and he would bring cash and pick the bike up, then never turned up
Never end the auction till the money is in your hand.
...as for the second guy, I would defornatly take his £10 and keep it.
And don't let them come and look at or collect the bike from your house.....meet somewhere else.
Obvious really but thought I should say it.
But as a buyer they say you should never met someone in a car park, always visit their house?
See a guy asked me to end early on Tues which I did and drove from Newport to Leicester today with the cash and took the bike away 😀
Oh and we met in a carpark!

Hmm. If I was buying a bike, and the guy wanted to meet in a car park, I don't know if I would be too happy.
I guess it's a balancing act.
I guess it's a balancing act.
Yup, that's cycling.
What I meant was not showing someone the bike and where you live before you get the dosh cos the following morning when you wake up the bike might be gone....
This is the first time I've used ebay (as a seller), and apart from this one and another item, everything's gone really well. It's just a pain in the arse when the auction ends and you wait and then ... nothing. I just don't get why someone would bid on a (fairly expensive) item knowing they didn't have the money to pay for it. I blame Thatcher. Or TJ - maybe even Fred.
You'd be amazed. Some people seem to think they are bidding on the option to buy.

and the rest are just c**ts!
Been using ebay for 13 years for our business to sell stuff, as a guesstimate we get about 1 in 20 transactions pissing you about, usually just not hearing anything back, occasionally a reply to say they haven't got the money/my young son or daughter bid by mistake (heard every excuse). I suspect with OP's bike like that it was some yoof getting over-excited. I wouldn't take it off ebay for ending early until they have actually been and paid. I just shrug my shoulders and have it set it up to launch an unpaid item dispute after 3 days so we get fees back, they get an unpaid item strike and we then re-list or do a second chance offer. It's not worth getting worked up over, you've done nothing wrong, just accept there are knobs out there
cheers

This is, of course, why there's a 'block bidders' option.
The problem is, unless the block bidders function has developed a precognitive ability, this can only be used after the fact.
True, but it stops them bothering you again.
If you sell a bike on here, would you let them come to your house to collect?
Despite listing bikes for sale on here, I have never sold one. Always seem to go on other forums quicker. So to answer your question, yes, did so only yesterday via UKCX, and last year I sold a Defy to a guy on Pinkbike.
2 bikes I have bought via eBay, I have gone to their houses.
The goodthing is sellers can no longer be lying misleading ****ers.
Rather that all day long
Stw still has elements of creative photography and misleading ads
I've just sold 3 mid to high value non-cycling related items after a long spell of avoiding eBay due to experiences like the OP's.
All 3 collected from my house and I ended 2 of the auctions early without getting the money first. Maybe I've been lucky, or maybe cycling and mtb'ing has a high proportion of ****ers. That's been my experience with around 1/4 of bike stuff I've sold on here and eBay getting some sort of hassle.

....and those too lazy to write their own advert, or add pictures.
