Only me in at work today so I just thought I'd take a memory lane look at the Bikemagic Forum - not a lot going on is there! 9 posts today if you click on 'todays posts'.

Seems hard to believe there's been such a massive drop in activity over there. A few years ago it rivaled (and probably surpassed) this place for activity.

Can't quite figure out why so many members drifted away.

Think they changed the format too many times,a few of the livelier characters got banned, and there were too many forums.

It's factory media, they've killed a couple of previously lively forums, their software keeps crashing, folk drift away, Facebook, Twitter, Forums generally are on the slide with all the other social media pressure, not surprisingly and cycling generally seems to be in a bit of a down phase we've lost two bike shops locally recently that were once very popular, ran group rides, those things tend to be cyclical if you'll pardon the pun.

Yip. Bought out the old adrenalintrip.net forums and killed them off. Used to love that place.

BM was the premier go-to forum when STW was still gofar. It led me to stw in about 2001/2, but even then is was beginning to become full of ejuts.I never went back after finding stw.

The issue is, those that remain know each other so well, and there aren't enough new / varied people to add new opinion to any threads that get created.

Freedom of [s]speech [/s]swearing is more readily accepted by the BM Mods.

Needs wider audience participation IMO. With regards to those banned, there was some seriously deluded behaviour going on in the public gaze and some worse off it, hence the bans. To my knowledge there's only 1 member with a lifetime ban, far less than STW IIRC....

True, but they're our ejuts! And most of them are entertaining, most of the time... 😉

Maybe some of the above posters should pop back to BM and say hi?

It is both a sad reflection on us both that

a) I know what you're talking about and
b) Have met them both

But those that still post there are all here too so there's no point. Even the ex-editor was complimented for posting the "best thread ever" here on STW yesterday.

Are there any curry sphincter-related threads on BM? That's the real test...

No doubt, the OP of the curry thread is one of the 9.

It's been some years since it's been active sadly, I poke my head in now and again, but there's never much happening. Shame really, there were some good characters.

No doubt, the OP of the curry thread is one of the 9.

Your post has reminded me that there were actually two members kicked off of BM.

I was never banned, warned or ever had any negative dealings with BM mods, Kryton, I had myself bozoed following a threat to get my wife sacked. When the forum changed format a year or so later my account came back to life, I reckoned enough water had gone under the bridge to leave it up and running. The thread where it all turned sour is now visible, do you want key words?

The John G how to warm up properly video was an all time classic IMO 😀

Shirley it should be posted here if it still exists?

No Thanks john, I've no desire to rake up and keep tabs on the past or ex forumites, that's what caused the trouble in the first place.

He was on universal ignore for quite a while while it was still active wasn't he?

He was and was actively posting.

He then -overnight - launched a repetitive personal tirade regarding an individual member on every thread available and got himself banned again.

It is pretty sad. I post there more than I post here as I can't get on visually with the forum here (and amount of posters). I've met some top people through Bikemagic that I consider friends and have ridden in places I would not have got to before so have a lot to thank BM for. It was in decline before the 'forum revamp' but that pretty much killed it. Just a shame that the owners have effectively wiped their hands the forum and really couldn't give a monkey's.

Used to enjoy the old BM. Now it seems to be going the way of the 26". 😯
Project are you from the Mersey perchance? Remember quinny?

No idea what state it's in now, but a couple of years ago BikeMagic was basically down to a one man band! I think the shrinking of the organisation probably didn't help the demise of the forum.

Project/Sad Bloke is Merseyside based, I miss the old BM it was a riot sometimes but in a good way. I think I was something like member no 20? But I did join in 1998!

It was also virtually completely unmoderated, which was good in some ways, but a couple of guys really took it too far, and got away with far too much abuse which put a lot of people off.

Project/Sad Bloke

Didn't know Project = Sad Bloke.

People should have the same login dammit, there's several people I'd not realised I 'knew' from my time on BM.

That said mine is different 😕

Seems I have 8,706 posts on there, more time wasted than I realised! Although I'm not far off eclipsing that on BR. Quite glad there's no post count on here 😳

Bloody hell Quinny I just went through my messages on BM and the oldest one still showing was to you! BTW was under my real Name on BM 😉

Project is actually a nice happy bloke in real life and my mate is still enjoying the Cinder Cone he sold to him, it was very well looked after.

I still use Mike Davis best put down line when Dylan was getting out of hand "Did you just type the contents of your latest brain fart"

I did a ride with Sad Bloke - the inaugural one at Woburn IIRC? He was indeed more cheerful than one might expect.

You were pretty "dry" yourself msp, thus avoiding direct insults I must admit.

Btw, it still appears to be completed unmoderated. *waves at quinny and sadbloke*

Ah, the déja vu ride 😀

😳

The best ride with Sad Bloke was the one at Cannock when he walked down a hill faster than Dylan rode it.

I wonder if the videos still exists.........

You know that a forum is pretty much unmoderated when the moderator himself comes on and tells Dylan something along the lines of Fcuck off Dylan , throws in a few more insults and ends with I mean that most sincerely .

That was a really funny episode which ended up like Dylan being scolded by his dad.
