Nope they won't help a new widescreen tv would though.

I've just ordered this one:

It arrives Monday so will be able to give you a review after that if you want.
I found that someone found something bad to say about virtually every tv I could find so went for this one, which seemed to have the least amount of bad things said about it, 😆
Also, try avforums.com for lots of geeky advice.
