Why do some men - especially a certain Mr John Craven - wear a shirt and tie, then put a round necked jumper on, so you can barely see the tie anyway?
I find it rather odd, and quite annoying.

He's John Craven. He can hang the tie off his old fella, if the fancy takes him.

To be fair, John Craven carries it off a lot better than that skinny kid up there.

Tie + jumper = school uniform. If you're older than school age, it is not a good look. IMHO
