It doesn't really surprise me that American homeland security act in such a way, although it is clearly a stupid reaction to a throw away line on twitter.

But how the hell did the case in Britain get through the courts without being chucked out.

Remember kids: only terrorists use hyperbole and TV references.

Probably best to avoid irony too.

And also remember........

The internet and forums etc. are the real world, you can't go around saying things or doing things you don't really mean ............ oh yes 😉

hmmm, deja vu... no offence, but you're either very young or so old/out of touch that you can't grasp just how much the internet has changed the world in recent years.

The story is made-up bollocks. The so-called memo they quoted from doesn't exist.

"The authenticity of the document could not be independently verified. It was photographed by Small World News Service, an independent British news agency that frequently pays its sources for stories. Mr. Bryan and Ms. Bunting posed together for portraits by the SWNS news agency that appeared in tabloids on Monday, including the Daily Mail and the Sun."

KONABUNNEY not sure about that the homeland security press release states :-

"Based on information provided by the LAX Port Authority Infoline – a suspicious activity tipline – CBP conducted a secondary interview of two subjects presenting for entry into the United States. Information gathered during this interview revealed that both individuals were inadmissible to the United States and were returned to their country of residence."

This suggests something happened but it does not say info was obtained from twiter.

crankboy - yes, that's exactly my point. This wasn't "CIA reads Twitter and interrogates tourists as potential terrorists". This was "tipline is called, punters are inevitably yanked at passport control for questioning, punters are sent home because they're inadmissible under VWP".

I strongly suspect the Twitter stuff (and the made-up press release) is just made up by the punters so they can get their mugs in the paper and make a few quid.

Looks the Homeland Security social media trawling system is up and running nicely. The 'detect and ignore irony' module might be a bit buggy.

I do find it reassuring that US immigration are stopping all the terrorists who boast about their exploits in advance on social media.

There's nothing worse than a cheeky terrorist aracer.

I like my terrorists to show a little humility.
