It's all gone a bit weird lately, can't pretend I know why (apart from a combination of the usual things over the last 18 months) but my random contributions are:

Builders: Yeah, not available at all. Too busy and not even taking on work.
S/H cars: silly increase in prices.
Carpet: Yup, that's up 30% ish from last year
Shops: Loads of bare shelves. Was in Wilko the other day and their kitchen utensils bit looked like it had been robbed by Oceans 11.
Wildflower turf: Sold out everywhere due to unprecedented demand!
Kitchens: DIY Kitchens are in such a pickle they will only sell you the kitchen and not the oven/fridge/washing machine as they can't guarantee supply.
Skips: My go-to skip place, that has been chilled about how long you have it, for years, is now on a strict 3 days for 4yrd and 7day for 8yrd terms.
Houses: LOL

The only thing that's gone down is a McDonald's coffee, which is now 99p nationwide 🙂

Builders

wouldn’t matter if they were available - there’s no wood, plaster, concrete or paint.

Two things that are definitely not worth skimping on quality...

Anyway, kayak stuff. I want a footboard and a buoyancy aid. None to be had. I'm blaming the mania de jour of SUP's for the latter.

Guitars. Every Squier of every model and colour has been out of stock on the website for months. (not interested in shops as I can't use my discount)

I was hoping it would be easy to sell my van. It's on ebay and all I've had so far is stupid questions and one 'buy it now' from someone who claimed to be laid up in a hospital bed and had never even seen my advert.

Carbon SUP paddles are also in short supply.

Gulfstream surfboards are currently taking orders for November shaping.

Looks like I'll be sticking with my old toys for a while.

Patio furniture.

All the pubs and cafes and such have been raiding the local diy sheds and bought all the furniture for 'dining'  outdoors.

I think a good bit of the short fall is from people spending the money - they'd normally spend on holidays - on home and garden improvements.

Obviously you can add the reduced production due to Covid.

Add pinion gearbox hardtail mtb framesets 😔

Calor gas is hard to find right now.

For those moaning about not being able to get Opens or BAs....our paddlesport shop normally has around 150 Sots, sups, kayaks and opens in it. Right now we have 6 (no opens). If you are a 50 inch chest we have a BA for you.

Trucks, the big ones not the 4x4 ones. All the dealers I know have pretty much sold everything they can get their hands in from the factory all the second hand trucks are going for a premium. All the new stuff is pretty late too. Compound that if you want anything added on to your truck like lifting gear or skip loader.

And Campervans. People I know who bought in the last few years are getting silly high offers from the dealerships they bought off.

Well a number of things really - timber shortages are part increased demand, part covid and Brexit trade issues but also a bad (for timber harvesting) winter in Scandinavia. Similarly other shortages are fuelled by the severe winter in Texas which knocked out certain key refineries and factories that supplies raw ingredients for all sorts of plastics, paints, adhesives, fertilisers and so on - theres not a lot you can buy that doesn't have some sort polymer - paint, print, ink, glue, solvent, plastic or whatever-  involved in its production or supply chain

I did however see white dog shit a few days ago - I mean properly, surprisingly  really white. So, you know, swings and roundabouts.

Agree with houses. We need to move from a two to a three bedroom house in the next couple of years and I genuinely can’t see how. The leap in price is ridiculous and even the ones that are just out of budget are smaller than our two bed and in dicey areas. Reckon Mrs F and I will be crashing downstairs on a sofa bed with a wardrobe cunningly disguised as a cupboard.

Apparently certain HDs are getting scarce at least partly due to a new cryptocurrency that uses HD space (similar to how bitcoin uses graphics card processing).

Boardman 9.4 SLR. Wanted an out and out road bike and it was gone in about a week. I expect it'll turn up on eBay with a significant mark-up.

What sort?
We've got one of each here that could be sold. Footplate from some Pyranha AFAIAA, I think its a Palm BA, around 5 years old, still floats.
We were in Desperate Measures in Nottingham last week, they have loads of BA's in stock new.

So glad the house we're having built is nearly finished, but we've had quite a few delays all the way through - timber, windows. The latest is roofing for the garage. There's also a big shortage of skilled building labour - everyone's busy and a lot of the Europeans have gone home. Good luck to anyone planning a big project this year, because it might be a long wait.

Also spent the evening in a futile search for new sofas for the house - Ikea have very limited stock, some people are offering 14-16 weeks delivery.

Shimano "reverse" shoe buckes. The ones where the buckle is on the strap and the toothed strip is on the shoe.

In stock nowhere at the already high from if about £30.

One place has them at £70 😮

Obviously of major concern, but Lidl has no wraps. Those wheat tortilla things useful for pretending you’ve made a decent packed lunch or tea with very few ingredients. None. I’ve been to 3 Lidls. Luckily Asda seems to have bypassed the wrap blockade. Close call.

Apparently the big boat has been impounded because of the money or lost revenue racked up while it was blocking the canal.
I did hear though that the owners were looking for some way to offload the cargo onto other ships in order to get around paying their incurred costs

Latex gloves were ridiculously expensive compared to pre-Covid. Though they’re beginning to be discounted in our supply chain (one of the reasons I’m beginning to see a possible easing of things is our PPE supplies have been stable and coming down in price!).

Fruit - scarce in certain places and has gone up in price.

Cake - decent supply and prices seem to be stable.

@andrewh uhm might be interested in your pollytunnel

Graphics cards.

Next-gen games consoles.

^^^ This. My own gaming PC was zapped in a power surge almost three months ago, which was fortuitous because the six week wait for a new gaming PC to be built at a staggering (albeit insurance covered ) cost is a whole lot more palatable than the eight months that some folk have been waiting for their RTX 3080s to arrive.

Oh and affordable housing. Fun fact - if we took the baseline cost food and housing since 1950 and applied the same level of inflation across the board, a whole frozen chicken would cost a cool £50.

Pm'ed you Sparks.
.
RE houses. My father bought the one accross the road from where my parents live now in 1978. He paid £12k, which was about three times the average wage in those days. It sold last year for eleven times the average wage (TBF it had had an extra bedroom built above the garage but even so...)

Graphics cards are a real problem in computing at the moment and it’s worldwide. You’ve got several issues all adding to the mix and it’s hard to see when it’s going to get better.
Things which made it worse:
Semicondutor demand has increased in every walk of life
People making the semiconductors have been affected by COVID
People shipping them have been affected
Increased demand for all computing products shot up because of workplace demand
Increased demand for all computing products shot up because of home and leisure demand
Cryptocurrency demand had driven data mining which is massively increased sales of any graphics cards. It’s generally the fast DDR6 memory which is what they use, Bitcoin has gone more towards processor power but newer CC tens to use graphics cards capabilities - nvidia are trying to bring out cards which detect mining and slow down but who knows if it will work.
Nvidia and AMD have brought out new cards recently which are really really good and a big step change in capabilities so a lot of people are wanting them (in addition to the reasons above!)
And to cap it all anything that IS available is scalped by automated bots are sold for much higher prices than RRP.

My AMD Rx590 I bought for £210 18 months ago, last time I checked I could sell it for £380 second hand on eBay but there is NOTHING I could buy to take its place at any price point bar £20 ultra basic “just run windows” cards.

It’s bonkers.

Yeah, they marketed that feature on a mid range card back in March and then "accidentally" released non-throttled drivers for it the very next week. AMD aren't really interested in ensuring that consumers can actually buy their products at all, let alone at MSRP.

I've seen it in real life mate, it's shit. About the size of a postage stamp and dark, dull colours. You want to ask them for one of those Monet jobbies, much more jolly. Unsure on price/availability issues.

A few weeks ago it was coconut milk.
None at all in our local Aldi, Sainsburys and Co-op. My wife managed to find a couple of cans in B&M of all places.
I think I've seen it back in Aldi since but the shelf was nearly empty again.

Worryingly we found a plasterer no problem who is coming next week. Also got a joiner fairly easily for another ~ 3 day job. Both recommended so there might be some wild regional variations in these shortages.

Oh, I know.

Dentists.

A couple of years ago I got struck off from the place I've used every six months since I first had milk teeth, for the crime of being a few minutes late for an appointment. After ringing every dentist in the area, of which there are many, I rang the NHS "you are entitled to a dentist" helpline. She asked if I was in Lancashire, I said yes, and she just about laughed in my face.

Dentists.

Yep, our NHS Dentist is not currently seeing patients because Covid, however if you're a private patient it's not so much of an issue.

Computer Stuff in general

Yep, Absolute perfect storm or 'cluster ****' if you prefer.

Part of my every day life, is specifying, buying, configuring (that bit someone else does) and selling Computer Hardware...

Last year I, along with everyone else in the the trade bought any and every laptop we could lay our hands on, honestly I bought and sold some proper shady crap - if you wanted a Gold colourer laptop with a 5 year old processor that, and I'm not making this up, had a chassis that was more than 60% full of air for £800 (plus Vat) I was your Man, not because I'm a con man, but because with everyone of our 3k-ish end-users clambering to WFH at short notice, it's all we could get, and clients didn't mind.

Once every piece of shit device from every channel supplier was gone, we asked when we could buy more only to be told "The stock that's coming in now, is the last stock we'll be getting for a while, the factories are closed". It came, we bought it, it's gone.

Fast-Forward to August 2020 and things were starting to feel more normal, both in general and in the IT world, bosh, here comes Kent / Wave 2 and every Local Authority in the UK buys up everything they can get their mitts on ready for home schooling in September.

Then Semiconductor shortages, Suez etc etc etc.

Thankfully, supply is *just* about keeping up with demand at the moment, it's hard finding stock, but not impossible, it's the price that's hurting us. HP / Dell et al, they're not wasting their valuable CPU stock on banging out standard issue Business machines, they're starting at the mid-range and above, plus like bike parts the industry generally works on a high stated rrp with 20% discounts being the norm, not anymore. the £400 unit I was buying in Feb 2020 is now £600 or more.

All that pales to the fact I really fancy an Xbox Series X and can't buy one.

Vans. I was looking at trying to get a VW Caddy maxi Life. Not a chance. Local VW Commercial dealer said the prices have gone through the roof, and zero stock anywhere.
Funnily enough he could source me a new Electric VW Van, quite cheap to lease but only a 70 mile range.....Lol
Apparently there is a drought in Taiwan where a lot of the electrical stuff for the world is made, this, plus a Global Pandemic, Plus the Captain of a fairly substantial cargo ship has made a lot of stuff like rocking horse poop...#whodathunkit

I taught myself in the spare room. A few how-tos on the youtube, give it a go, not the end of the world if you balls it up.
Top tip 1) make it runnier than you think you need.
Top tip 2) Get a wall sander. I'm obviously not as good as the pros, but if I can get it close enough I can finish it off with a wall sander. Obviously a decent plasterer wouldn't need to do that

Graphic cards are insanely hard to buy atm. Even the retailers are bumping up RRP's and scalpers selling them for over double on ebay. I bought a 3060 ti after a week of jumping on discord alerts and I could sell it for £1200 on ebay easily - I paid £500!

Shimano brake pads are a nightmare to find. I order a couple sets from an LBS in the scottish highlands that was about 10 pages into the google search.

And we're starting to look at buying our first house but the market is crazy right now.

Pistachio's or salted almonds so tasty and always get a few rogue pistachio that won't come out their shell
A wee tip never eat the scraps left in the bag as good as it is there will be a bit of rock hard shell to remove a filling adding to the overall cost
