We will be in touch
I know there's a few The Wire fans on here. Good news for viewers of council telly (like myself) is that the Beeb have bought it. No info yet on when it'll be broadcast.

Nice one.
7 years after it first aired 😆
Anutie Beeb. Finger on the pulse of what's hot.
Best series ever.
“A life Jimmy. It’s the shit that happens while you wait for moments that never come.
I have been reading up on the wire, is it as good as they say ?
Yep, it is very good. Watched it all the way through on FX a while back. The only thing at the time I would go out of my way to watch...
Anutie Beeb. Finger on the pulse of what's hot.
To be fair the show had pretty poor ratings on HBO through it's whole run, and was under threat of cancellation at most stages of it's run for that reason. In this country, the only figures I can see for the FX broacasts gave it 38000 viewers for the season 5 opener despite the hype- absolute peanuts. I can see it struggling to hold ratings on the beeb as well, to be honest- a lot of it's potential audience will already have seen most of it on dvd, with it being one of Amazon's best sellers.
Having said that it's one of the best bits of tv I've ever seen, but I've only watched it on dvd, taking a week or so to watch each series - with it's pacing I think it needs to be watched in big chunks. I'd probably get frustrated even at one episode a night.
Generation Kill from the same people is also quite good.
I had to watch series one with the sub-titles on [s]'cos I ain't down in the hood[/s] as I couldn't understand the dialect. Even with sub-titles, I sometimes struggled.
The acting was a bit wooden for the first few episodes but stick with it as it is an excellent program (up there with the Sopranos, IMHO)
I just started on series 2 last night.
I'd agree with vinny about needing to watch it in chunks.
I think it's the best thing on TV ever. Mos def, ain't no bout-a-doubt it.
I reckon it takes 5 episodes to get into Series 1 - if you're not into it by then, it's not for you. And yup, in chunks and with subtitles is the way forward.
"Occupation? I rip and run."
A friend lent me Series 1. Watched first 2 episodes and felt no desire to watch any more.
All you fans out there - convince me? What am I not getting?
Nomesame, you MOFOs?
Eldridge It like every one has said it takes 5 or 6 episodes to really get into it and to understand the language
just watched series 4 in a week and it was possibly the best yet.
Why is the Wire good? It's just interesting, there is so much going on and at all levels of society and they keep all the characters watchable. There are no cleche lines like in 24, which are good now and again but can get tiring every episode. The action is good but it's quite subtle, sometimes there a gun fight or whatever, sometimes its politicians waffling on but somehow they manage to keep it interesting all the time. And then the coolest characters, which there are a few but standout heads and shoulders is Omar, possibly the best character on tele in a while....
Stick with it, it's worth it
Sheeee-eeet!
unfortunately I picked that up as a bit of a habit last week, the girlfriend is very impressed. Sheeee-eeet 🙂
