Just heard the above phrase (not for the first time I should add) on Newsnight and I think it has some rather unpleasant connotations not only about the people involved in politics but also how they view themselves.
Can anyone define what is meant by the phrase? Am I just being a bit provincial in my view? Can you help me understand this?
I thought it was the class next door to Geography?
is 'politic' not from the latin meaning inner city or something like that.. edit.. having googled politics its of Greek origin so that about sums it up..
They're the class who tell everyone how to run their lives while ignoring their own rules.
I accept that we live in a class society, or maybe that I should term that a status defined society, but I find the inference that there is a class of people who are either interested in politics or that define the politics for the rest of society deeply disturbing.
I should also add that the phrase was used by a conservative MP so I suppose my question is whether that mindset is common to a lot or all MP's?

Count0 - I agree to a certain extent but the division has never felt wider to me, hence the question.
