Little known fact is that when the Internet went live, the first site was hosted on a NExT computer, which was Steve Jobs' company after he was ousted from Apple. He took NExT tech back to Apple when he was re-hired. The NExT was chosen because the MS DOS PC's around then weren't up to the job.

reminds me of the old joke that computers were invented at Bletchley Park during the second world war and they are still trying to figure out how to get the printer to work

ps old enough to remember programming with punch cards - first portable machine I saw was in late 70's when working as a student at British Steel research - size of washing machine - we used a ford cortina estate to get it out into the rolling mill
